    Description

    The responsibilities of the staff nurse in this role include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for a diverse patient population. Additionally, the infusion nurse provides patient and family education, as well as psychosocial and emotional support. They are a valuable member of a multidisciplinary care team that emphasizes effective communication and collaboration with colleagues at the Institute, BWH, and other affiliated institutions. The infusion nurse actively identifies their own professional goals and learning needs, showcasing clinical expertise, critical thinking, collaborative practice, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of clinical research principles.

    • This position requires 100% on-site presence
    • Location: Flexible between the DFCI sites in Boston (Longwood Medical Area) and Chestnut Hill expansion site (Boylston Street)
    • Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, Weekdays 7a-6:30p, No Weekend, Evening, or Holiday Requirements

    • Delivers expert, evidence-based nursing care to patients and families
    1. Implements the nursing process:
    • Assesses patient and family needs
    • Analyzes assessment data to develop clinically accurate diagnoses
    • Plans care by setting goals with measurable outcomes
    • Implements the care plan
    • Evaluates patient's response to interventions
  • Documents care in compliance with Institute and regulatory standards
  • Administers medications, including chemotherapy, and performs procedures safely and efficiently following Institute protocols. May administer blood transfusions
  • Evaluates educational and psychological needs of patients and families, integrating these needs into the care plan
  • Educates patients and families on various disease aspects and treatment modalities, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies with appropriate actions. Maintains BLS certification
  • Identifies relevant community resources to ensure continuity of care and makes suitable referrals
  • Adheres to professional nursing standards, as well as licensure requirements specific to the nursing role
  • Builds rapport with patients and families from diverse backgrounds
    1. Interacts with patients and families in a compassionate manner, respecting privacy and confidentiality needs
    2. Develops problem-solving approaches tailored to individual patient and family needs
    3. Demonstrates proficiency in providing age-specific care to served populations
    4. Cultivates an inclusive environment sensitive to the requirements of diverse populations, including factors like culture, ethnicity, gender, and age
  • Oversees the patient care environment
    1. Monitors care environment to ensure patient safety and compliance with regulatory standards
    2. Complies with Institute, Nursing, Patient Care Services, and unit policies, procedures, and standards
    3. Abides by the Code of Ethics for Nurses in all professional practice facets
  • Contributes to formulating and achieving goals within the unit, Division of Nursing, and the Institute
    1. Assists in defining goals, developing systems, and work processes within the unit, Division of Nursing, and the Institute
    2. Participates in unit, program-based, and divisional committees, councils, and initiatives
    3. Demonstrates flexibility in prioritization and readily takes on additional responsibilities as needed
    4. Engages in QA/QI projects within the unit, Division of Nursing, and the Institute
    5. Supports research initiatives within the unit, Division of Nursing, and the Institute
      • Must be a registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or State of New Hampshire
      • A Baccalaureate degree in nursing is highly preferred. If holding an associate degree, completion of BSN degree within 4 years is required
      • Minimum of 1-year recent RN experience
      • Prior ambulatory and/or oncology experience is a plus
      • Professional nursing certification is preferred
      • AHA BLS certification required
