Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood is currently looking for a friendly, energetic, and reliable
Health Care Assistant to join our diverse team in our Albany Health Center.

This is a _full-time_ (37.5 hours per week) career opportunity that is eligible for our
generous benefits package


Scheduled Shifts:

Monday: 8:00am-4:00pm

Tuesday: 9:00am-5:00pm

Wednesday: 11:30am-7:30pm

Thursday: 11:30am-7:30pm

Friday: 9:00am

While our Health Care Assistants have a broad scope of responsibilities, some of the most critical include (but are not limited to):


  • Welcomes patients and visitors in person or on the telephone and answering or referring inquiries.
  • Answering patients' questions and maintaining the reception area.
  • Filing and retrieving patient records.
  • Maintains patient records by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information accurately
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes.
  • Contributes to team effort
- schedule and register patients to ensure mínimal waiting time

  • Collects all required demographic and billing information, including insurance verification
  • Solves problems and triages calls/questions to appropriate medical personnel; documents in the EMR to ensure appropriate follow up
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new clinic staff, as indicated
  • Experience working with insurance and prior authorizations
  • Responsible for verifying insurance benefits and eligibility
  • Register patients accurately and in a timely manner making sure all information is correct, insurance is verified at the time of registration and all applicable signatures are obtained
  • Directs patients and visitors to appropriate areas obtaining assistance from fellow employees for those patients and visitors that are unsure of where they need to go within the hospital.
  • Monitor patient wait times both before and after registration keeping them notified of any delays and waits.
  • Consistently demonstrates a positive attitude
  • Fosters teamwork by offering assistance to others
  • Acknowledges and responds tactfully to all requests
  • Shows consideration in interaction with patients, and other healthcare team members
  • Communicates and interacts with others in a professional, responsible, cooperative, and positive manner always.

Requirements:


  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1 year work experience in a medical office environment required
  • Prior experience in a customer service position preferred
  • Experience working with insurance carriers/providers highly preferred.
  • Must be proficient with computers
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Records

New staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have received their booster before employment. Exemptions will be made for medical reasons with documentation held in our HR office. UHPP also requires flu vaccination for all employees.
