    Essential Duties


    • Provide day-to-day operations oversight for the department. Hire, train and supervise support staff and student employees. Identify priorities, distribute and monitor work, and ensure adherence to deadlines and relevant procedures and policies. Approve time off and schedules. 2. Oversee use and operation of campus buildings and other spaces assigned to or used by the department. Monitor facilities for regular upkeep of spaces, identifying routine and emergency maintenance needs, helping to resolve issues and coordinating with relevant university departments and internal/external service providers to ensure corrective action is taken. Review and approve contractor invoices for payment. Participate in the planning for and coordination of renovation projects. 3. Provide wide-ranging logistics and programming support for the array of programs and activities sponsored by the department including supply purchasing, vendors and service provider agreements and contracts, communication, and transportation. Ensure the smooth functioning of events in the set-up, presentation and conclusion. Coordinate interaction between building staff and outside vendors. Act as coordinator and problem solver for all special programs. 4. Assist in developing and overseeing department budget. Approve/monitor all expenditures, payroll and other financial transactions. Manage all income and approve expenditures for events. Approve invoices for payment. Analyze and recommend solutions to accounting issues. 5. Help support communications efforts including drafting correspondence, reports, and other materials. 6. Interface with student and external groups in the organization of events and community outreach opportunities.
    Required Education and Experience


    Bachelor's degree and minimum of four years of related experience, including demonstrated leadership, project management and/or supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

    Position Focus:


    Reporting to the University Chaplain and exercising a high level of discretion and independent judgment, the Chaplaincy Manager provides a high level of operations oversight for the Chaplain's Office and manages all office activities, programs and support staff.


    More specifically, the Chaplaincy Manager hires, trains and supervises office support staff currently including two clerical and technical staff, student employees, and the Battell Chapel sexton.

    Monitors payroll for clerical and technical staff and student workers, as well as the University Church at Yale (UCY) choir.

    Coordinates program and event planning for the department and serves as liaison for the University Chaplain and the Chaplain's Office in contacts with university and non-university personnel.


    Serves as the building operations manager with facilities responsibility for department spaces including Battell Chapel, Chaplain's Office, Hindu Prayer Room, Muslim Prayer Room, Breathing Space, Buddhist Shrine, Dwight Chapel, the Chaplain's residence, as well as future space in Connecticut Hall.

    Oversee scheduling of and analyze use of Battell Chapel. Contribute to policies regarding the use of the Chapel. Is on call and expected to respond to alarms and other issues regarding Chaplain's Office spaces.

    Develops and implements procedures and systems to enhance office productivity. Ensures activities are carried out in accordance with University and departmental policies. Participates in the planning for and coordination of maintenance and renovations projects. Monitors facilities to identify routine and emergency maintenance needs and to ensure corrective action is taken. Responds to complaints relating to facilities issues.

    Oversees the logistical facets of events, purchasing supplies and associated items and ensuring the smooth functioning of event in the set-up, presentation and conclusion.

    Coordinates interaction between building staff and outside vendors.

    Serves as key liaison with the division business office.

    Assists in monitoring the department budget, reviewing and approving all expenditures, payroll and other financial transactions; analyzing and recommending solutions to accounting issues; and making recommendations for changes, as needed, during the annual budget process.

    Monitors income and approves expenditures.

    Contributes to communication efforts including projects such as compiling information for and preparing Chaplain's annual report and supervising the production of the Sunday bulletin for the University Church at Yale.

    Interacts with student and external groups in the organization of events and community outreach opportunities.


    Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
    Demonstrated experience in managing relationships and influencing outcomes. Demonstrated creativity and effectiveness in a complex organization. Familiarity with Workday.
