Description

Responsible levels of skilled work in the maintenance of the Water Treatment plant; this position also performs the duties of the Water Plant Operator on an assigned shift.

The Water Plant Operator with Relief Duties may be called upon to do any of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)

  • Perform all duties of the Water Plant Operator as regularly scheduled or as assigned to cover vacations, sick leave, or other operator absences.
  • Repair and maintain chemical feeding and mixing equipment; calibrate feed rate settings on chemical feed equipment; assist in or perform the replacement of bearings, belts, and pump diaphragms; clean feed ejectors and lines; weld; grind surface; paint equipment.
  • Check and lubricate switching gears and motors; install motor brushes; replace motor bearings and packings; change engine and motor oil.
  • Assist in changing or installation of pumps and motors.
  • Install doors and water lines; repair windows; perform building painting, perform general maintenance of water filters and valves; install packing; clean water valves.
  • Operate light automotive equipment on incidental assignment, related to mechanic work; install new mechanical equipment by assignment.

Required Training:

Graduation from high school or vocational/technical school supplemented by completion of water plant operator courses; experience in general water maintenance work including some experience in water treatment plant operations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that will provide the knowledge, abilities and skills.


Special Requirement


Note Employees in this class will be required to meet any future State or Federal requirements relating to the purification and distribution of potable water.

Required to obtain a Class C Operators license within 18 months of hire. This can be extended at the discretion of the Water Director. An Illinois Class A Operators License is desired.


May obtain certification as a Laboratory Analyst for the Colilert technique in the City's bacteriological laboratory by the Illinois Department of Public Health.


Pay:
$32.95 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to Relocate:

  • Hudson, IL: Relocate before starting work (required)
