    Description

    Directs the Office of Survey Methods Research (OSMR), including the Mathematical Statistics Research Center, the Behavioral Science Research Center, and the Data Science Research Center.

    Evaluates difficult and complex problems in BLS programs and advises the Commissioner and others in BLS leadership in the areas of survey methodology, statistical methods, and data science, including the applicability of advanced techniques for improving BLS surveys, increasing quality and user relevance, and/or reducing cost.

    Participates in the development of policy, long-range plans and programs of the BLS, and in the formulation of statistical standards regarding survey design, data collection, coding, statistical computing, data analysis, and data dissemination for BLS data systems and products.

    Serves as the primary survey methodological consultant to BLS programs covering issues dealing with mathematical statistics, survey design and methodology, and the application of the behavioral sciences to the design of questionnaires, data collection procedures, and user-friendly computer systems for data collection and dissemination.

    Participates in the career development of BLS professional staff by conducting seminars and participating in other staff development activities.
