Description
Psychiatrist - Child and Adolescent
We have an excellent full-time opportunity for a BC/BE Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
Our Child and Adolescent services currently have dedicated units for both populations, and our expectation is that this service will expand with the opening of a new 120 bed psychiatric facility in 2-3 years.
We also anticipate development of dedicated intensive outpatient and partial hospital services for the child and adolescent population in 2020.
There is also the opportunity to be involved in the development of a new Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship as part of our collaboration with the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC), and to participate as Core Faculty within the Psychiatry residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship.
Our Behavioral Health/Psychiatry service includes:
9 Bed Adolescent and 8 Bed Child Psychiatry unit
Three Adult, One Geriatric, One Child, and One Adolescent Inpatient Units totaling 82 beds
23 Bed Emergency Department Psychiatric Evaluation Area and 10 bed behavioral health pod in the new Mission Hospital emergency department
Consultation on the Pediatrics Service and in the Emergency Department
Adult Structured Outpatient Program with group therapy focus, and further outpatient program development in progress for 2020
Active ECT Program
Involvement in teaching and supervision as part of new regional psychiatry residency training program through MAHEC, with academic appointment possible
Clinical duties include:
An Ideal candidate will be interested in focusing on child and adolescent psychiatry as well as possibly providing some adult inpatient, emergency department or consultation/liaison services

Psychiatric services of Mission Hospital provide a key element of care for mental health throughout Western North Carolina. Established over 25 years ago, we are the only inpatient psychiatric service in Buncombe County.
We provide short-term inpatient care for adults, adolescents, and children who need crisis stabilization, and partner with our community mental health system to minimize re-hospitalization and promote positive outcomes for our patients.
