The Surgery Coordinator is an important position that is responsible for scheduling ophthalmic surgeries at the ambulatory surgery center and serving as liaison between patient and surgeon, facility, staff, etc.
Position requires good understanding of ophthalmic practice and insurance coverage, considerable attention to detail, exemplary internal and external customer service skills, ability to communicate with patients, surgeons, coworkers and supervisors and a willingness to help in all areas.
List of Main Responsibilities/Duties includes but is not limited to:Maintains surgical schedule for surgeons
Communicates with patients about:
o Scheduling; o Preop and postop testing and visits; o Insurance requirements; o Financial requirements and payments; o Surgical consents; o Facility ownership disclosures; o Transportation requirements; Contacts facilities for scheduling.
Arranges for preop testing. Schedules preop visits. Schedules postop visits. Calls for necessary preauthorizations. Coordinates paperwork. Maintains patient confidentiality. Attends required meetings.Fields in-coming phone calls Assists with front desk duties as needed Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
