  • Housed in the Division of Student Affairs, Career Exploration and Development is responsible for all aspects of career development, from advising on career and graduate study to fostering employer and alumni connections that lead to internships and jobs. The strength of Career Exploration and Development lies in the supportive, individualized advising and programming it provides to students over four years of study; the realworld expertise of staff; deep and broad connections to alumni, parents and employers; and the postgraduate success of students who pursue traditional and nontraditional career paths as varied as arts, communications, consulting, finance, education, law, policy, marketing, medicine, science, engineering, advocacy, research, and technology, among others.

Essential Functions:


  • Relationship, event, and opportunity management (with employers and alumni)_
  • Collaborate with a portfolio of advisors on best ways to serve students interested in career sectors where they have expertise, which includes: building a programming plan, curating opportunities (jobs and internships), identifying target employers, and executing effective marketing strategy.
  • This role will most likely work closely with advisors in the nonprofit, education, law, policy and environment sectors.
  • Manage relationships with employer partners. Offer tiered/nuanced ways for employers to engage with students, based on their capacity and needs, and student interest. Maintain information on relationships and connections via Bowdoin Connect within Handshake.
  • Evaluate employerdriven programming and effectiveness through outcomes reporting and data collection.
  • Coordinate joint programming with Bates, Colby, and NESCAC peers.
  • Contribute to several "allhands" events staffed by the whole team.
  • Bring or develop proficiency in Handshake, the software platform that is used to power employer engagement and advising.
  • Outreach and marketing_
  • Serve three constituencies equally well students, employers/alumni, and career advisors (specialists in their career sectors).
  • With employers and externally**:Conduct outreach based on student's career aspirations (internships and jobs) as identified by students and advisors. Examine trends and patterns of recruiting engagement by organizations, students, and alumni to determine their level of satisfaction with recruiting and to inform outreach strategies. With sector advisors, create target lists of organizations given market research, student and alumni interest and sentiment, and recruiting partner past success and outlook.
  • With students: Effectively communicate CXD opportunities (jobs, internships, events, etc.) to students. Exercise strong writing skills to create marketing copy for events, programs, and opportunities targeted for an undergraduate student audience.

With advisors:
Effectively communicate sector events and opportunities to advisors and assist with sector newsletter curation. Partner with advisors to create effective outreach to new employer prospects.

  • The targeted hiring range for the role based on the position requirements is $54,500 $56, weeks/year)

Education/Skills Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Strong operator/project manager able to handle a high volume of tasks from big to small. Comfortable with a reliable, repeatable, effective hiring event and marketing model, but also open to innovation/different program models.

    Has developed or worked with initiatives that serve underrepresented groups.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn software such as Handshake, Airtable, Excel, and Canva.
