Specialist, Collegiate Drug & Alcohol Prevention

Hiring Rate:
$22.00 Hour

The Specialist of Collegiate Drug & Alcohol Prevention is a temporary grant-funded position. The grant is funded until September, 2025.

Reporting to the Manager of Drug & Alcohol Prevention, this position works up to an average of 18 hours per week depending upon planned program activities and scheduling needs.

As a temporary part-time position, this position does not receive benefits.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the development, planning, and promotion of prevention programs and events for student underage drinking and marijuana use and assist in the evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Assist in the development of educational materials, focusing on reducing underage and highrisk drinking and prevention of marijuana misuse/abuse.
  • Assist with designing and implementing alcoholfree social events on campus and social norming for collegeaged students.
  • Responsible for ordering and distributing educational materials to the campus community while working in collaboration with thirdparty vendors and the college marketing department and printing center.
  • Work with student employees and student peer mentors to plan activities and social gatherings for the Student Health and Wellness Club.
  • Plan and coordinate prevention activities and campaigns targeted to specific student populations to support the recovery needs of students.
  • Work closely with the College Student Conduct Office, College CARE Team, and College Police as appropriate.
  • Participate in local and regional coalitions, associations, and professional networks to strengthen community collaboration, benchmark best practices, and enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Assist with the implementation and promotion of biannual student surveys.
  • Coordinate and attend certified peer education training for students.
  • Gather, organize, and summarize program data from prevention events and programs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of events
  • Oversee poster/flyer distribution and update social media posts
  • Assist with duties and tasks related to events coordinated by other Student Development divisions.
  • Assist with additional projects as needed

Minimum Expectations & Requirements:

Completed bachelor's degree or pending completion of bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, social services, criminal justice services, or related field

  • One year of paid or volunteer experience providing either behavioral health services, education, enforcement, or intervention work
  • Be available to work some evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations including HIPAA, FERPA Title 42, CFR Part 2, ARS
  • Additional training or certification may be required to maintain grant compliance

Preferred Skills & Abilities:


  • Interest in health and wellness issues
  • Experience in working with Yavapai College campus departments and their students
  • Strong understanding of how to reach students through various social media tools
  • Experience with training and program development related to substance abuse prevention and/or recover
