_ CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE_


This non-exempt position performs a variety of skilled tasks involving the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of complex irrigation systems (e.g., valves, controllers, mainlines, laterals); performs related work as required.


_ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS_

  • The examples of functions listed in this job description are representative, but not necessarily exhaustive, of any one position in this job classification. Management may assign other functions not listed herein at its sole discretion._
  • Accurately checks irrigation system, initial startup, midseason checks and shutdowns/winterization of system;
- replaces, installs, and adjusts sprinkler nozzles and heads;
- uses correct nozzles on pop-ups and rotors;
- has a map that shows the location of the backflow, controllers, and meters;
- diagnoses, programs, and turns controllers on and off correctly;
- installs backflow preventers, flow sensors, basket strainers, and pressure regulators correctly;
- accurately checks the pressure of the main line and adjusts the pressure regulator;
- repairs leaks in lateral lines up to 2";
- repairs leaks in main lines up to 4 inches;
- performs systematic, accurate, and timely valve diagnostics;
- repairs and maintains valves and tracing electrical components;
- installs and initializes clocks and timers, locating existing zones and valves and performing pump repairs;
- operates a walk-behind trencher and compactor equipment safely;
- use shovels and/or hand tools to dig into soil to repair or replace parts;
- retrofits existing irrigation systems to provide proper water coverage;
- works with a pipeline design and layout installed in compliance with design specifications;
- performs troubleshooting of systems for proper maintenance and water penetration;
- troubleshoots wiring problems and conducts appropriate repair;
- replaces and double-checks assemblies;
- installs and adjust valves correctly;
- can change a valve diaphragm correctly;
- performs water management practices;
- installs irrigation systems;
- repairs hydraulic systems;
- interprets and programs computerized irrigation systems;
- demonstrates proficiency with various types of tools (e.g., remote, basic hand tools, station master, voltmeter);
- performs wire tracing;
- always installs valve boxes and sprinkler heads at ground level;
- can change a valve solenoid correctly;
- performs two-way path effectively;
- communicates well with clients, co-workers, and management;
- completes inventory and service sheets accurately, timely, and efficiently;
- understands, calculates, and applies ET correctly;
- can change a circuit panel and module on a Smart Controller correctly;
- installs main lines correctly;
- accurately distinguishes between inside water lines (i.e., building) and outside water lines (i.e., irrigation);
- purchases materials and tools necessary for project completion within budget and authority limitations;
- demonstrates maximum safety procedures in the operation of vehicles, equipment, and tools;
- demonstrates basic knowledge of horticulture practices;
- maintains tools and equipment to ensure safety;
- attends safety meetings;
- knows how to make a colored Controller map to conduct a PMI, that is necessary to detect problems and improve irrigation efficiency maintains parts inventory on vehicle;
- installs a commercial, home, and battery controller correctly;
- can convert and install a drip system correctly;
- role models PPE usage;
- completes assignments within labor goals and specifications without sacrificing job quality;
- provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, work-site partners, and Company staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
