General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for an Assistant Technical Director to join our team

Responsibilities include coordinating the daily operations of all radiation oncology centers by ensuring adequate coverage at all centers. Effectively manages the therapist staff. Interacts with physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, administration, and other departments to meet departmental and organizational goals. Manages technical and clinical projects as required. As a member of the clinical management team the Technical Director oversees the EMR system. Acts as a liaison with the radiation therapy school in the training of radiation therapy students.


Primary Duties:


  • Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources accordingly. Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Oversees the Chief Therapists at all MedStar Health-RadAmerica departments and is responsible for Annual Performance Evaluations. Working with the Technical Director, implements new policies and procedures within the Radiation Therapy department. Assists the Technical Director in communicating with therapy associates and the medical directors; interfacing with the regional radiation therapy programs; development of action plans within the therapy department; recruitment of radiation therapists for MedStar-Health; data acquisition for monthly departmental reports.
  • Working with the Technical Director, provides department and organizational reports monthly to the Vice-President of Technical Management. Coordinates rotation schedule for students. Assists in the coordination of inservice and continuing education meetings. In the absence of the Technical Director attends Technical Management and monthly QMP meetings. Attends Physician Peer Reviews. Assists the Technical Director in establishing and implementing a therapist staffing and rotation schedule. Provides coverage. Implements an emergency oncall schedule.
  • Working with Chief Therapists, maintains appropriate therapy staff schedules at all centers. Rotates to all offices at least twice per month. Maintains technical supplies. Works with technical director to evaluate, recommend, budget, and purchase new equipment. Enter all projects into the Capital Budget System. Tracks projects through approvals, ordering and receiving of capital equipment. Working with Chief Therapists ensures all new associates receive training and have proper credentialing. Maintains accreditation and credentialing records of staff. Ensures all therapists are oriented to and practice the technical quality assurance principles. Ensures that all therapists have good working relationships with physicians, patients, and coworkers. Communicates with physicians regularly.
  • Performs appropriate quality management reviews of charts, ensuring they are complete. Designs and implements quality assurance programs and ensures that all quality assurance studies are performed appropriately. Performs monthly staffing report and communicates with the Technical Director, informing them of problems or suggestions for improvement. Selects, trains, orients, and assigns therapist staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.

Project Management:
Assists the Technical Director with the implementation of all new equipment, EMR implementation, training, and procedure development


Payroll:
Working with the Technical Director maintains the Radiation Therapy Department payroll and monitors overtime, on-call, PTO, FMLA, etc


Qualifications:


  • 3 years progressive experience in the clinical setting. Prior leadership responsibilities in Radiation Oncology as Chief Therapist. Bachelor's degree in sciences, management, or related field preferred.
