  • University Animal Care at the University of Arizona is in search of an Animal Technician III. The position is distinguished from the Animal Technician II in that incumbents are responsible for daily care of a variety of animal species and/or are assigned additional Cage Wash duties such as training new employees in Cage Wash operations, updating Cage Wash SOPs, operating complex equipment, and documenting these activities. Incumbents are generally assigned to perform animal care duties within in one facility. Work is performed under mínimal supervision with assigned general expectations. The work schedule includes participation in the Animal Care holiday rotation schedule, may include weekends, and may include compensated overtime.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & responsibilities:


  • Animal Care and Husbandry
  • Assigned animal care duties to include room servicing, rodent health assessments, delivery of routine and average clinical treatments under direction of the veterinarian, and cleaning duties.
  • Report operational problems and equipment malfunctions and learn the skills to make moderate repairs.
  • Stock animal rooms and resupply storage spaces in the animal facility.
  • Assist all other staff in exporting and importing of animals to and from the facility.
  • Assist other staff in receiving and moving inventory using carts and pallet jacks.
  • Responsible for collecting caging, food and water for assigned cage change requirements.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Able to be flexible in work assignments
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Moderate skills and experience in animal care and husbandry.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Ability to drive according to the University
    Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational, Associates or Bachelor's degree in an animal related field
  • ALAT certification
  • Previous husbandry experience
