General Summary
- This position is responsible for safely assembling, connecting, repairing, installing, and constructing pipe systems for storm drain, sanitary sewer, water (potable and nonpotable) and/or dry utilities.
- Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
- Use instruments including but not limited to lasers, grade rods, eye levels and transit levels to set appropriate grade for pipe installation.
- Locate existing pipes requiring repair or replacement using magnetic or radio indicators.
- Pothole utilities using hand tools or pothole machine.
- Grade or level trench bases, using tampering machines or hand tools.
- Cut pipes to required lengths.
- Tap and drill holes into pies to introduce auxiliary lines or devise.
- Align and position pipes to prepare for welding or sealing.
- Connect multiples pipes and seal joints using mechanical fittings welding equipment, cement, or glue.
- Assemble and disassemble trench boxes and shoring systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
- Two (2) years of pipelaying experience in underground construction, preferred.
- Knowledge of safety standards and underground facilities law, preferred.
- Ability to wear a full body harness and work at heights while tied off.
- Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
- Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fastpaced and complex environment.
- Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.
- Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent handeye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.
- Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
- Ability and willingness to abide by Granite's Code of Conduct daily.
