    Director/Sr. Director of Development and Events at Washington Policy Center

    The Director/Sr. Director of Development and Events at Washington Policy Center (WPC) is a key player in advancing the organization's mission by strategically managing fundraising efforts, major gifts, and event planning. Reporting to the President/Chief Revenue Officer, we are looking for an experienced fundraising professional with a proven track record in securing significant donations, corporate partnerships, and planned gifts. The ideal candidate will lead a dynamic team, nurture long-term donor relationships, and contribute to successful fundraising campaigns with purpose.

    Responsibilities:

    • Major Gifts and Planned Giving:
      • Cultivate and maintain enriching relationships with major donors, corporations, and foundations.
      • Develop strategies for planned giving, including bequests, trusts, and annuities.
      • Collaborate with the Development Manager to enhance annual giving efforts, including strategies to expand WPC's Pillar Society.
    • Event Planning and Execution:
      • Manage all components of event planning, including logistics, budgeting, and execution.
      • Organize high-profile events, conferences, and galas to engage donors and raise funds.
      • Ensure seamless event experiences for participants and donors.
      • Recruit and oversee volunteers as necessary to support event objectives.
    • Team Leadership and Collaboration:
      • Align fundraising efforts with organizational objectives.
      • Supervise the Development Manager for Annual Giving and Development Services Staff.
      • Collaborate with various teams, including Communications, Research, and Executive Leadership.
    • Industry Metrics and Best Practices:
      • Stay updated on fundraising trends, industry standards, and donor engagement approaches.
      • Set measurable goals for individuals and teams in collaboration with the Chief Revenue Officer and evaluate performance against key indicators.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, business, communications).
    • Minimum of 5 years of successful fundraising experience, showcasing excellence in donor engagement and philanthropic investments.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to establish and nurture external and internal relationships.
    • Proficiency in fundraising CRMs/databases and event management software.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 10+ years of fundraising experience, including annual campaigns, portfolio management, and stakeholder engagements.
    • Fundraising certification like CFRE or memberships evidencing commitment to the field.
    • Familiarity with planned giving vehicles and success in securing estate commitments.
    • Experience in obtaining sponsorships and grants from public and private entities.
    • Leadership experience in motivating and managing teams aligned with organizational values.
    • Proven strategic planning for development success.
    • Experience in multiyear fundraising campaigns exceeding resource goals and enhancing awareness.
    • Track record in articulating real-world impact with researchers.

    This role is based in WPC's Seattle office with an option for 1-2 remote days/week.

    Details/Benefits:

    • Preferred start date: Spring 2024
    • Hours: Full-time, 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday, plus evenings/weekends for events
    • Health Insurance: 90% employer-paid health insurance (medical/dental/vision) for employees and 80% for dependents
    • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) – for pre-tax medical and dependent care expenses after six months
    • 401(k) retirement with company match
    • Vacation: 2 weeks paid, 11 paid holidays/year
