SUMMARY
Captures, impounds, and cares for unlicensed, stray, and uncontrolled animals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Snares or traps animals with net, rope, catch pole, traps, dart gun, and other devices; cages/secures animals in a truck; removes animal from truck to shelter cage or other enclosure.
- Operates animal control vehicle throughout the City to and from the shelter.
- Purchases materials or equipment and supplies as directed.
- Collects money from customers.
- Supplies food, and water to detained animals; provides personal care to detained animals.
- Enforces all Federal, State, and local ordinances regarding animal and rabies control; investigates complaints of animal bite cases.
- Processes and destroys animals as directed and required.
- Prepares and transports animals to Houston for rabies check as directed and required.
- Examines dog licenses for validity and issues warnings or summons to delinquent owners.
- Removes deceased animals from City and Public property.
- Examines captured animals for injuries and delivers injured animals to a veterinarian for medical treatment.
- Keeps Animal Shelter and all pens clean and in good repair.
- Maintains files on the number of animals impounded and disposition of each; may submit a monthly report to the Chief of Police
- Ensures shelter and all equipment are taken care of and used safely.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One to three years of related experience and/or training preferred.
- Texas Class "C" Driver's License in good standing
- Certified Animal Control Officer required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is Frequently required to talk or hear; stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, reach, and crouch.
The employee is Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance, kneel, or crawl; required to use arms and hands to sweep, mop, and be able to move quickly to capture stray animals.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.
