Full Job Description

***: The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT or Support Staff) is responsible for assessing client needs and monitoring behavior while at the program. Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, Program Director the Behavioral Health Technician or Support Staff is responsible for documenting activities of daily living, caring for clients, helping to coordinate treatment and executing daily programing. Behavioral Health Technician may assist counselors with crisis management, groups and education, as needed.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Completion of all Behavioral Health Technician duties and/or documentation within Saving My Tomorrow and state mandated timelines.


2. Conduct client rounds according to state protocols and document appropriately.


3. Responsible to read communication log at beginning of shift and complete their own summary and essential tasks contained therein by conclusion of shift.


4. Complete new admission intake procedures according to Saving My Tomorrow policies on all new admissions (UA, belongings searches, and paperwork).


5. Documentation of daily progress in client charts. Overnight staff to document quantity and quality of sleep in progress notes.


6. Administering detoxification protocols (completion of vital signs and rounds) on all detoxification clients.


7. Crisis intervention


8. Assist, teach and/or supervise clients with general household chores.


9. Monitor the needs and behaviors of clients; Interact with clients and their families/significant others as needed and documents such interactions.


10. Continue to learn about alcohol and/or drug abuse and alcoholism and the principles of recovery.


11. Assist and participate with on-site activities, support groups, outings and community meetings, as assigned.


12. Establish rapport, systematically gather data, determine the readiness of the individual for treatment and change.


13. Screen for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms


14. Demonstrate adherence to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct


15. Participate in continuing professional development


16. Maintain facility cleanliness and upkeep of program.


17. Utilize principles of communicable disease prevention and control.


18. Recognize early signs of illness and the need for professional assistance and follow through & report it immediately.


19. Assist in the availability of community services and resources.


20. Recognize individuals under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and documents when needed in communication log and/or an Incident Report.


21. Respond to emergencies and initiate action as required.


22. Follows HIPAA Regulations.


23. Be awake during all shifts.


24. Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings.


25. Other duties, as assigned.


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


Knowledge:

The Behavioral Health Tech or Support Staff will:

1. Possess a basic knowledge of administrative functions including, interpersonal communications, office etiquette, and computer skills.


2. Possess strong work ethic and high standards of workmanship.


3. Possess an introductory understanding of chemical dependency


4. Possess an introductory understanding of the 12-step process


5. Possess active listening skills in the ongoing development and education of residential treatment services.


6. Basic knowledge of HIPPA compliance and privacy measures


Abilities:
To excel in this position the Behavioral Health Technician or Support Staff should be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

1. Problem Solving - The Behavioral Health Technician will be able to identify and resolve problems in efficient and effective ways.


2. Ethics - Treat clients, staff, co-workers, visitors, contractors, and guests of Monarch Shores with respect and dignity; work ethically and uphold the values and standards or Saving My Tomorrow


3. Attendance, Punctuality, Reliability - Arrive on-site, on-time, as scheduled, consistently with a professional disposition. Ensure all work responsibilities are covered in the event of an absence or scheduled vacation.


4. Leadership - The Behavioral Health Technician should be able to lead and direct end users


5. Strong Character - Staying calm under pressure is essential. Having an approachable demeanor without compromising SAVING my Tomorrow Standards of ethics and workmanship.


6. Organization - Must be highly organized and efficient in managing the necessary daily client/staff demands and tasks associated with them.


7. Flexibility - Openness to different and new ways of doing things; willingness to modify one's preferred way of doing things


QUALIFICATIONS AND PREFERENCES:


1. At least One year of sobriety if in recovery.
