Position Summary/Purpose of Position:


  • The Business Coordinator reports to the Director of Finance, and provides professional, customer serviceoriented support to faculty, staff, students, and visitors in the School of Public Policy's new Institute for Public Leadership (IPL). The Business Coordinator is responsible for a range of financial, personnel and administrative support functions in accordance with University, Foundation, and Sponsor policies, procedures, and guidelines. The incumbent will provide event support and logístical support to guest speakers, and assist with special projects as needed.

This position's primary role function is to coordinate financial transactions, payroll functions, and student award processes across all IPL funding, to include budget forecasting and reporting, tracking expenses, performing transfers, processing travel and procurement transactions, disbursing student awards, and ensuring adequate record keeping and file management.

The Business Coordinator is embedded within the IPL and works closely with the IPL team to support IPL goals and programming needs, while reporting through the Dean's office Finance Team.

The incumbent will set up processes to streamline best practices to manage business and travel procedures effectively and efficiently within the Institute for Public Leadership.

The Business Coordinator will support payroll processes and student awards, proposal development and post-awards, accurately enter encumbrances and track expenses in BA4, and other duties as assigned.

As a member of the School of Public Policy's staff, the incumbent will serve on shared governance
committees per the School's Plan of Organization.

Education:


  • Bachelor's degree or combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for degree.

Experience:


  • 24 years progressively responsible relevant professional work experience.

Preferences:

  • Finance or accounting experience.
  • Grant Award management experience.
  • Experience with UMD financial management systems, processes and policies (including BA4,
  • Workday,PHR,KFS, Concur) and financial programs (e.g., Excel), Zoom, experience with University.
  • Human Resources systems.
  • Prior experience in an academic institution or similar environment.
  • Prior experience working with the State of Maryland / knowledge of State policies.
