Canine Customer Care (Pack Leaders of dog daycare / boarding attendant)

The Dog Society of San Diego is seeking hardworking, organized, reliable, and self-motivated Pack Leaders for our multi services dog center.

Permanent, Full and Part-time positions are available, must be able to work weekends and holidays.

You will be spending the majority of your time looking after dogs (keeping them engaged with lots of interaction and showering them with love) and making sure the play area is clean.

Must be very comfortable around dogs and manual labor (mopping, sweeping, changing mop buckets, etc). Friendly disposition and a strong work ethic is necessary. Previous direct experience handling dogs is highly preferred, but not mandatory depending on the fit.

We are currently hiring for both day shift and closing shift (2pm - 10:30 pm).
Minimum Requirements: 18 years of age or older.

Able to interact in a positive way with all sizes and types of dog (if you are afraid of ANY breed, this is not the place for you as The Dog Society does not breed discriminate).Ready to take on heavy cleaning on a daily basis (Lots of dogs means lots of cleaning) Must have the ability to work weekends and holidays.

This is a dirty job and HARD work but is definitely rewarding.

The Dog Society has a ZERO-TOLERANCE policy for the mistreatment of animals, this includes but not limited to shoving, yelling, hitting or any treatment that could be misinterpreted as abuse.


Responsibilities and Duties

Supervision of indoor and outdoor playrooms and float in "people" areas as directed, maintain control of a large group of open play dogs in the playroom to ensure a safe environment.

Continuously on their feet showing the dogs attention and care to ensure that they are maintaining a pack leader status in the room.

Behavioral issues are addressed proactively in a timely and effective manner.

This may include crating for time outs when necessary, but NEVER includes the use of physical force or punishment of a dog.

Handling general care tasks such as feeding and administering meds for pup's as needed. Keeping record of feedings, treatments and other updates.

Cleaning Duties
All Areas are continually monitored and kept free of messes by immediate and continual spot cleaning throughout the shift.

Daily cleaning assignments which may include, but is not limited to sweeping, mopping, taking out the trash, refilling the water cooler, replacing water bowls, wiping down walls and play equipment, keeping floor drains clear of hair, and mop room drains etc.

Cleaning procedures involve the proper use of chemicals to ensure a safe environment for both people and dogs.

Daily and weekly cleaning assignments typically include sanitizing kennels as well as cleaning the walls, floors, vents, & play equipment with appropriate materials and solutions.

Conscientious effort to help maintain a clean facility and help make every room look better than when you arrived. Informing Shift Leader of any broken crate, deterioration of facility, or anything that could be perceived as hazardous.

Health and Grooming:
Demonstrated ability to bathe any size dog without direct supervision and to company standard.

Proper procedures include the use of appropriate shampoo for the dog, appropriate use of bathing equipment, and the clean-up of the bathing area upon completion.

Ability to clip dog toenails or use of the Dremel individually or with the assistance of another team member. Assist with the distribution of meals, snacks, and record accordingly. Never feed a dog anything without the proper instruction from pet parents or shift leaders.
