SUMMER RECREATION LEADER




PLEASE NOTE:

This position is temporary, seasonal, at-will, and part-time working fewer than 950 hours per fiscal year and is not eligible for City/MESA benefits.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT AND POSITION:


The Community Services Department is comprised of three divisions: Community Services Administration, Youth and Adult Services, and the Child Development Center.

As a department, we take pride in the quality and variety of services we provide to the community and seek individuals who can contribute.


The Summer Camp Recreation Leader will be a member of a dynamic team in the Youth and Adult Services Division and will be responsible for delivering creative, innovative, and enriching summer camp programs for youth in the Emeryville community.


Under the supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the Summer Camp Recreation Leader leads various recreation activities for children enrolled in summer camp.

They are responsible for group safety, completing activities, and following the camp schedule.

Leaders must also complete required program paperwork; meet professional standards around attendance, uniform, and communication; and perform other duties as assigned.


IDEAL CANDIDATE:


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledgeable of the philosophy, methods, and techniques utilized in organized recreation
  • Knowledgeable of recreational and program activities suitable for clientele; ageappropriate activities and programs
  • Knowledgeable of standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment
  • Able to plan, organize, implement, schedule, and conduct a variety of recreation programs and activities for clients
  • Able to perform physical tasks in order to demonstrate program activities
  • Able to maintain a safe and healthy environment for recreation clients and staff
  • Able to participate in activities and perform required physical functions of assigned program activities
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relations with those contacted in the course of work
  • Able to keep records of program attendance and develop fliers and brochures to promote activities and programs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Experience working in a structured or supervised recreational program and/or college level training in Recreation, Physical Education, Education, or a related field is desirable

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:


  • A valid California Driver's License, with a satisfactory driving record may be required
  • A valid certification in CPR/AED/First Aid from the American Red Cross is required upon hire

COMPENSATION:

- $17.13 to $23.27 per hour, based on experience


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be sufficiently physically active to stand, walk, bend, reach above and below the shoulders, and lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds; sit for extended periods; work occasional long hours; and have the stamina to interact with a variety of school age children.
  • Eyesight sufficient to read data, memos, spreadsheets, vouchers, and computer screens; manual dexterity to operate a personal computer, typewriter, and copier.
