    Job Description

    About the Position: The Teacher (Guide) leads instruction in their certified subject area classroom, reports to the Principal, and works in collaboration with Classroom Assistant, SEL Team, and Coaches. This is a full-time 10-Month position through New Haven Public Schools with required August Training before the school year begins.

    Required Qualifications: This role demands certification to teach in the state's public schools and experience with project-based/land-based/Montessori learning. Ideal candidates should hold a Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

    Preferred Qualifications: An ideal applicant possesses a Master's Degree in Education or a related field, has prior experience as a public school teacher and/or is trained in the Montessori method. They should be enthusiastic about collaborating with a teaching team, supervising children, and supporting students with special needs and multilingual learners. The ideal candidate is kind, caring, compassionate, enthusiastic, well-organized, bilingual (Spanish), and creative with strong written and verbal communication skills.

    • Planning and presenting instruction in academics and social-emotional learning in various settings
    • Differentiating instruction to cater to the needs of all students
    • Collaborating with different teams to plan curriculum, instruction, and assessment
    • Engaging families through consistent communication to aid in children's development
    • Participating in professional development related to social-emotional skills, academics, and Anti-Bias Anti-Racist work

    Areas of Responsibility:

    • Developing instructional materials to meet the needs of all learners
    • Designing instruction to enhance learning experiences in different environments
    • Creating weekly lesson plans, including Montessori lessons and ABAR instructions
    • Conducting formative and summative assessments based on benchmarks
    • Using data to track progress and engagement
    • Engaging in outdoor learning experiences
    • Contributing to an interdisciplinary curriculum

    Anti-Bias Anti-Racist Work:

    • Incorporating ABAR Learning Themes into the learning cycle
    • Integrating ABAR principles into various educational areas
    • Participating in ABAR professional learning

    Social-Emotional Learning:

    • Planning lessons that promote social-emotional growth
    • Assisting in maintaining order and discipline in the classroom
    • Regular communication with families to support social-emotional development

    Differentiation and Support:

    • Planning differentiated lessons for students requiring extra support
    • Participating in Intervention Planning and monitoring student progress
    • Communicating with families about support plans

    Family Partnership:

    • Sharing updates with families regularly
    • Communicating children's progress effectively
    • Collaborating with families to enhance academic and social-emotional growth

    Collaboration and Professional Learning:

    • Maintaining positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff
    • Engaging in team planning activities
    • Participating in required professional learning sessions

    Miscellaneous:

    • Maintaining all necessary professional certifications
    • Performing assigned duties

    Compensation: Based on the unionized NHPS salary scale with additional benefits
