THE POSITION:


Are you deeply committed to protecting Pennsylvania's environment? The Department of Agriculture is looking for dedicated individuals to assist in the fight against the invasive Spotted Lanternfly, a major threat to our agricultural commodities, forest ecosystems, and communities.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:


  • In this role, you will provide technical assistance in the field and office within the Spotted Lantern Fly (SLF) regional offices to the Plant Inspection Program Specialists (PIPS) and staff to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Conducts tree inventory for host trees of Spotted Lanternfly and ground pest surveys as required. Assists in direct suppression, biocontrol, trapping, and sampling as required to control Spotted Lanternfly. Establishes field study plots as required. Collects and summarizes field data in electronic format. Prepares written reports as required. Oversees Forest Insect Pest Aide (FIPA) 1 field staff.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Fulltime employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday, with 30minute lunch.

Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Palm, Pennsylvania.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • An associate's degree in forest technology;
    or:
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Conditions of Employment:


  • This position requires possession of a valid PA noncommercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:


  • PA residency requirement is currently
    waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
