Work Schedule:
Most ESL classes are offered Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 9:30pm.

Various schedules and locations are available. Hours will vary depending on class(es) assigned.


Primary Purpose:

Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.

Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts.


Minimum Qualifications:

Except as provided elsewhere in this article, the minimum qualifications for service as a faculty member teaching a noncredit course shall be the same as the minimum qualifications for credit instruction in the appropriate discipline, or as follows:
Bachelors degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages

OR

Bachelors degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor

OR

Bachelors degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor

OR


Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a second language.

Desirable Qualifications:

Masters degree in TESOL.

Experience teaching ESL courses for adult education or community college.

Familiarity with CASAS testing, EL Civics, and/or Integrated Education & Training (IET), including I-BEST.

Working knowledge of and experience with student learning outcomes and assessment.

Possession of strong computer skills and ability to learn and effectively use technology and software.

Demonstrated ability to integrate 21st century learning skills and digital literacy effectively into instruction.

Understanding of, and the ability to implement, effective online instructional strategies.

Experience teaching distance education courses, including demonstrated experience with online learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas.


NOTE:

Instructors are expected to comply with the training requirements to teach online or remotely as determined by Campus standards.

Currently, NOCE instructors must possess
