Overview:
This position is responsible for the overall facility life safety programs and systems.

Position will work cooperatively with the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority to ensure optimal maintenance and operability of all campus wide life-safety infrastructure and equipment and will oversee life safety officers and medical services providers to ensure safe operation of the facility.

This role will pay a salary of $90,000 to $95,000

About the Venue:
McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America.

With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world's largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.


Responsibilities:


  • Works cooperatively with Director of Public Safety for coordination of all emergency response and implementation of Emergency Operations Plans across the campus.
  • Manages the plan review process ensuring that all event floor plans are properly approved in advance of event move in.
  • Serves as a consultant to events to develop workable solutions to life safety code issues. Works with local authorities and customers to explore approved equivalencies where required.
  • Hires, schedules and manages the daytoday work of the fire inspector and medical services staff working in the building.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled emergency drills to cover all types of threat including, but not limited to fire, weather, active shooter, mass casualty and other arising threats. Coordinates with local authorities to host periodic mass casualty planning and drills and to ensure high levels of readiness and familiarity with the facilities.
  • Coordinates campus wide training on life safety topics including emergency response, personal workplace safety, CPR, first aid, active shooter, and related topics to ensure that all OVG team members are educated in a manner which provides a safe environment for employees, partner, and guests.
  • Works with MPEA team to identify, prioritize and correct any life safety system or equipment deficiencies.
  • Reports any damages and deficiencies discovered in daily operations for repair.
  • Serves as a permanent member of the facility's Safety Committee.
  • Conducts regular facility and event safety inspections to identify and correct life safety violations and hazards.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Emergency Management or related field preferred.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of 3 year supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge with NFPA Life and Safety 101, Chicago Fire Code, International Fire Code and/or other widely accepted fire codes.
  • Must be willing and able to work long hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays around event driven schedules.
