Under general supervision, performs various line service and maintenance activities within the County's airport.


Shift:
Rotating 8-12 hour days


Example of Duties:


  • Ensures all ARFF airport vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and in accordance with the preventive maintenance program; inspects all ARFF equipment, fuel farms, trucks, and facilities; corrects deficiencies as necessary.
  • Prepares and conducts arrivals/departures for customers, including marshaling aircraft to parking areas, pulling aircraft in and out of hangars, securing tiedowns, on/offloading passengers and luggage, and refueling aircraft.
  • Receives fuel deliveries; tests fuel trucks and tanks for water in fuel; performs quality control inspections on jet loads.
  • Participates in airfield maintenance and security; mows airport grounds; maintains airport lighting; patrols the airfield to detect fire hazards, security risks, and violations of airport regulations; installs and maintains airfield fence; performs other related activities.
  • Performs building maintenance to airport facilities.
  • Enters information for customer/client billing.
  • Performs various special projects regarding airport facilities.
  • Assists with facility tours and provides details regarding airport information and services.
  • Answers calls and assists callers.
  • Attends mandatory FAA training sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education, Experience and Training Guidelines:


High school diploma or equivalent; AND two years of airport operations experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by Human Resources.


Knowledge of:


  • Applicable local, state, and federal statutes, rules, codes, and regulations governing airport operations.
  • Rules and regulations affecting airport operations, control, safety, and security.
  • Aircraft, various propulsion systems, and fuels.
  • Aviation communication techniques and equipment.
  • Department policies, procedures, and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.

Skill in:


  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, and airport tenants.
  • Using initiative, discretion, and decision making within established procedures, guidelines, and rules.
  • Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Operating various motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Operating various hand and power tools.
  • Performing mathematical calculations with skill and accuracy, and maintaining electronic records and files.
  • Providing effective customer service.
  • Using the International Phonetic Alphabet.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Texas Driver's License.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor work environment. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 80 pounds. May be required to climb ladders and perform work at high locations.

May be exposed to excessive noise levels, dangerous machinery, high, precarious places, risk of electrical shock, vibration, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases.

May be required to wear safety glasses. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
