Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred; some directly related experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Excellent communication skills with a variety of ages. Leadership and problem-solving skills with both large and small groups.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

Duties:

Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation is looking for friendly individuals who enjoy working with elementary and middle schoolaged children in a fun, natural setting. Our Recreation Activity Specialist II will be responsible for implementing the summer camp program by actively engaging with youth participants and staff daily. More than just keeping kids busy, recreation is a way to learn new hobbies and skills while gaining valuable socialization at the same time. This summer position is a great opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in recreation, education, or leisure studies. With a variety of other camps, events, and programs provided by different areas of Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation, you will have opportunities to work in many different areas as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Camp Supervisor in implementing scheduled activities
Assist with the daily participant checkin process
Responsible for safety and supervision of participants
Organize all equipment and supplies needed for activities ahead of the scheduled activity time
Communicate clearly to individuals and groups to explain activity steps, rules, and safety instructions to maintain an orderly activity and a safe environment
Lead children of all ages, acting as a role model at all times
Modify instructions and scope of activity to accommodate various age and skill levels so a safe and satisfying experience is had by all participants
Enforce camp rules at all times, including safety measures unique to each different activity
Perform other work as required.

Shift:

Shift varies; Monday - Friday; flexible hours between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; includes some evenings, weekends, and holidays
