Job Summary:


Essential Functions:


The Assistant Director of Career Development will work to advance the Law School's mission by sustaining and fostering an equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist community of diverse experiences and perspectives, emphasizing respect for the rights and dignity of every person.

The Assistant Director will also help assigned students discover their areas of interest and obtain summer and permanent employment positions that meet students' goals.


Recognizing the interrelationship between academic advising, the curriculum, externships, and clinics, members of the Career Development Office regularly liaise with faculty, alumni, and administrators.


The Assistant Director will do the following:

  • Develop programs, services, and materials that will assist students and alumni in developing effective job search strategies.
  • Record, update, and report on data to track students' and graduates' employment outcomes success.
  • Engage in other duties as assigned.

Competencies:


  • Superior interpersonal, communication, organizational, writing, and administrative skills; knowledge of the legal profession.
  • Knowledge of varied technology, including Symplicity preferred.
  • Career counseling experience preferred.
  • Law practice and legal recruiting experience preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position manages administrative projects as assigned.


Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office environment. Attendance at student and alumni events, both on
- and off-site, is required sometimes.


Physical Demands:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; to carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Start and end times are to be established by Associate Dean. Evening and weekend events are required sometimes.


Travel:

Travel is primarily local. Attendance at out-of-state conferences or events may be required sometimes.


Required Education and Experience:


  • A Juris Doctor degree is required.
  • 3 or more years' relevant professional experience required.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Admission to NY state or another state bar preferred.
