TITLE: DEPARTMENT HEAD (part-time)
REPORTS TO: Principal or designee
SUPERVISES: Department Staff
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year are determined by the Board of Education and the Teachers' Bargaining Unit
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: To provide leadership and coordination in assigned curriculum area
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This description of DEPARTMENT HEAD is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the supervisor according to varying needs.

Develop policies and regulations for the department's operation.

With staff, develop, implement, and evaluate the department's instructional program.

Supervise and evaluate department members and coordinate their activities.

Facilitate planned program of orientation and in-service activities.

Conduct department meetings on a regularly scheduled basis.

Prepare and administer the department budget.

Assist in the recruitment, screening, and assigning of department personnel.

Manage and maintain inventory of the department's supplies, textbooks, equipment, and supplementary materials.

Interpret the program to staff, the Board, and the community.

Performs such other department tasks as the Principal may from time to time require.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Connecticut Intermediate/Administrative Supervisory or Department Chairperson certificate

Major teaching experience in field of specialty

Additional requirements as the Board may deem advisable

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual (English and Spanish)

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Annually by the Principal or designee
SALARY: Stipend as indicated by Teachers Unit Bargaining Contract
