Position Overview
This Food Safety Manager is responsible for the execution and continuous improvement of the companys Food Safety department, ensuring the program and the facility are in adherence to all federal and local food safety regulations, evaluating, verifying, and ensuring the quality and safety of all finished products, raw materials, and related processes.
The Food Safety Manager will work closely with all areas of the organization to promote understanding and compliance with the Food Safety and Quality Control Program.
Essential Functions:
Continuously Identify and document best practices and implement procedures to improve the companys food safety and quality policies to ensure there are zero negative food safety incidents.
Provide oversight of Quality and Food Safety programs, evaluating compliance through planning and conducting regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
Conduct regular risk assessments of the production processes and production locations, identifying potential hazards and implementing effective control measures to mitigate risks.
Develop and implement effective incident response and reporting protocols that enable you to effectively and efficiently identify, document, and address any food safety incidents and/or any problems related to the quality and food safety system.
Track and interpret statistical data relating to quality; recommend changes in standards, processes, equipment, and materials to facilitate work and maintain quality.
Develop and deliver food safety training programs for all employees, emphasizing best practices, fostering a culture of awareness and accountability, and following up with staff as needed.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and maintain quality assurance processes, including product testing, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives, as well as collaborating with supervisors to identify and quickly resolve any quality-related incidents.
Report to Company Management regularly regarding the competency or training status of the functionality of the Food Safety & Quality Control Program.
Ensure product transactions are compliant with financial processes.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill, and Experience:
Bachelors degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Food Science, or Microbiology, or three to five years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
A well-versed knowledge of HACCP, FDA Food & Quality Regulations, Environmental Monitoring Procedures, Finished Product Testing, and Verification Processes, along with general Food Safety and Quality Control is required.
In-depth knowledge of Food Safety Management in the food production industry, with a focus on fresh produce or microgreens.
Certifications in Food Safety (e.g., Certified Food Safety Professional).
Operations Management experience is a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Organized and detail-oriented.
Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
Ability to meet deadlines.
