The Role

Ampere Computing is seeking a Solution Architect with expertise in Web Services. In this capacity the ideal candidate will have practical understanding of cloud-based web design and deployment, customer context, and how to optimize and deploy a cross-solution of common software offerings such as Nginx, Kubernetes, and automation tools.

The Solutions Architect serves as a subject matter expert for their domain of expertise. In this role you will oversee, manage, and design solutions that demonstrate value of Ampere processors and. The Solutions Architect is technical first and can specify the detailed implementation of both software and hardware ingredients required to implement an application or set of applications that operate as a service. This person proactively engages with technical decision makers and influencers at customers and partners to build solutions with compelling value propositions while demonstrating the performance and benefits of Ampere processors including world-class power and performance. Finally, the Solution Architect owns the technical aspects of their project including requirements gathering, deployment (bare metal or cloud), testing/validation and producing various deliverables such as performance graphs, solution briefs and deployment guides.

You will work closely with customers and provide support for sales opportunities through the design win processes, by leading technical discussions with customers and understanding customers sensitivities and dependencies. This is not a sales role and is in our Product organization.

What you'll do

• Work closely with account executives and customers to provide technical solutions and architectural guidance for running web services on Ampere powered servers and cloud instances.
• Design and develop reference solutions for web services workloads such as social media platform, e-commerce website or a content delivery network. Use these reference solutions to showcase one or more of Ampere's value propositions such as performance per dollar or performance per watt.
• Deploy solution stacks to on premise and cloud environments including OS deployment, network configuration, Kubernetes setup and configuring Linux kernel settings.
• Use tools such as wrk, jmeter and ghz to simulate traffic/requests and measure relevant metrics to show performance and efficiency.
• Tune and optimize the performance of components and technologies used by web service workloads such as nginx, redis, ssl, tls, grpc, lamp stack, Kubernetes, dns and sql/nosql datastores
• Create collateral and present data that shows customers, partners and channel sales the value of Ampere Platforms for web service use cases.

What you'll bring

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as an engineer working on a web service such as social media platform, e-commerce site or content delivery network.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with customers/external stakeholders to design and deliver web service solutions.
• Minimum of 3 year of experience tuning Linux kernel and container orchestration platform settings for web service workloads.
• Strong verbal skills and experience influencing and/or leading Customer, Partner, or OSS community initiatives.
• Hands-on experience in deploying, debugging, & functional verification and performance benchmarking of web service workloads in a datacenter or public cloud environment.
• Strong understanding of Operating Systems, Workload Orchestration, Systems Management and Monitoring Systems is a plus
• Understanding of General aspects of CPU/SoC architecture
• Strong understanding of service layer concepts such as storage and networking in a Hyperscale environment is a strong plus

• Practical knowledge of web services in a cloud environment with experience tuning and optimizing for performance.
• Experience with Linux-based tools, shells, scripting languages and CI/CD environments
• Strong knowledge of server performance benchmarks and tuning
• Understanding of ARM CPU architecture
• Strong understanding of Hypervisors and Containerized image formats and operating environments
• Experience with scale-out software design principles
• Experience with one or more Kubernetes distribution
• Strong writing skills and previous experience publishing papers, blogs or other collateral
• Experience with typical server form factors and add-in options at the server and rack level

Education

BS/MS in Electrical Engineering/Electronics/Computer Science or similar discipline and minimum 8 years of experience

Benefits & Pay

Ampere offers a competitive total rewards package that includes base pay, bonus, stock, and comprehensive benefits. The full base pay range for this role is between $129,000 and $215,000, except in the San Francisco Bay Area where the range is between $143,000 and $238,000.
