The Vice President of Safety & Security is accountable for leading a dynamic T eam and creating a comprehensive strategy to ensure the safety and security of Southwest Airlines.

This role engages D epartmen t L eaders, e xecutive m anagement, and government agencies in their efforts to enhance safety, airport security and environmental services.

Responsibilities:

Leads the Safety and Security department by formulating and implementing strategic vision, fostering alignment with organizational objectives, and effectively communicating this vision to internal stakeholders and team members
Provides decisive leadership and guidance to the Safety & Security department, fostering a culture of innovation and creative problem-solving
Delivers regular, insightful business updates and proposals to senior leadership, driving informed decision-making
Oversees Directors in the development and monitoring of programs designed to achieve departmental goals
Drives the advancement of annual department objectives through focused leadership and strategic direction
Prioritizes the health of the Safety & Security department by fostering employee engagement, retention, succession planning, and leadership development
Represent the company at pertinent committees and industry-related engagements, maintaining strong relationships and fostering collaboration
Establishes and fosters trust-based relationships with key regulatory bodies such as the FAA, TSA, and other governmental agencies
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of executive-level business processes and operational policies, driving strategic change and efficiency.
Skilled in communicating, both orally and in writing, to convey complex issues to diverse stakeholders, including the executive level.
Skilled in crafting compelling business cases and leading transformative change initiatives, and shaping organizational evolution.

Ability to inspire and empower teams through expert interpersonal skills and a servant leadership approach characteristic of Southwest Airlines leadership.

Ability to discern and address complex problems and opportunities, guiding teams through structured solutions.
Ability to handle highly sensitive information discreetly, exercising smart judgment Education

Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Proven track record of leading multiple teams or functions through subordinate leaders
Demonstrates advanced business acumen within the functional area, with significant business impact
Possesses knowledge and expertise in airline safety, security, and environmental services
