Opportunity
The Associate Project Designer is responsible for supporting the design and execution of projects within Kohler's Marketing department.

Under the direction of the manager and in collaboration with department associates, the Associate Project Designer will support a range of project types, with a primary focus on retail environments.

Projects will encompass research, conceptual design, planning, utilization analysis, renovation, and new construction.

The Associate Project Designer will be a key contributor and team member involved with design, development, and coordination of assigned projects, while creating deliverables, meeting deadlines, and supporting overall project execution.


Responsibilities include space planning, interior finish selections and specifications, cost estimates, procurement assistance, rendering development, design and construction drawings, project tracking and closeout, and preparation of presentation materials.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of project design scope definitions, programming, objectives, and requirements.
  • Support the development of creative and innovative design concepts from preliminary sketches, block diagrams and schematic layouts through design development and construction documents that incorporate leading edge philosophies.
  • Complete space planning proposals, concept drawings, elevations, perspective drawings, renderings and 3D models.
  • Use AutoCAD, Revit, Photoshop, and other design software programs to complete presentation work, interior construction details, and FF&E installation drawings and documents.
  • Support assigned projects through the preparation of bid documents, assessing contractor qualifications, and facilitating the contractor and vendor selection process.
  • Coordinate and attend project team and construction meetings as required and provide timely, consistent meeting notes.
  • Manage the implementation phase on assigned projects by tracking orders and lead times, monitoring quality, reviewing compliance with construction documents and quality standards, and obtaining required approvals as necessary.
  • Address ADA and interior finish compliance and ergonomic/human factors on assigned projects.
  • Collaborate and assist project teams, including other A&ID associates, CPM's and purchasing associates to meet project timeline, budget, and expectations.
  • Assist in the development of feasibility studies, providing detailed reports, scope documents, and concept packages.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks while working on several projects simultaneously.
  • Develop strong brand and product knowledge across the Kohler Company family of brands.
  • Limited domestic travel may be required.

Skills/Requirements

  • Required: Expertise and proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and AutoCAD software.
  • Required: Knowledge of interior finishes, building systems, construction details and industry nomenclature, as well as a general understanding of building code requirements.
  • Preferred: Proficiency in 3D modeling software including Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, including the ability to create and manipulate models, renderings, and lighting studies.
  • Preferred: Creative sketching and hand rendering skills.
  • Position requires a BA or BS degree in Interior Design, Environmental Design, Interior Architecture, or a degree from an NAABaccredited School of Architecture.
  • Position requires 02 years of related work experience, involving exposure to typical construction project phases including: programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bid negotiation, construction contract administration and project close out.
  • Pursuit of professional registration and/or licensure is preferred.
Hybrid role in Kohler, Wisconsin - onsite 3 days per week
