***: Under the direct supervision of the Camp Coordinator, the Camp Lead is responsible for the operational procedures and complete implementation of their assigned camp(s). This person must be capable of communicating with all staff members, children, and parents. The Camp Lead must be knowledgeable of proactive group management strategies, character development methods and counseling techniques. The Camp Lead must also understand all risk factors and ensure a safe environment for all children while they are at camp.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


He/she must have the ability to demonstrate understanding of program development and group management; effective and efficient time management; demonstrate capacity for managing and leading youth; excellent oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and coaching skills, ability to exemplify; and a "Y-Voice" that demonstrates determination, genuine concern, welcoming attitude, hopefulness and a nurturing spirit.


Understand ethical behavior and business practices, and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization; maintain a work ethic that holds a high standard to organizational accountability.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Person must be able to help coordinate staff placement each day for a safe drop off and pick up of each camper.
  • Supervise the Camp Counselors, Senior Camp Counselors and CITs.
  • Attend precamp training.
  • Maintain current Adult and Child CPR, First Aid and AED certification.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff members, children and parents.
  • Maintain knowledge of character development methods and counseling techniques.
  • Ensure a safe environment for camp participants and understand all risk factors.
  • Plan and distribute weekly camp activity schedules the week prior to each new week of camp to Camp Administrator.
  • Prepare for opening and closing of camp facility.
  • Manage all disciplinary problems, including resolution with proper documentation.
  • Remain within the constraints of the camp operational budget for supply requests.
  • Ensure each child's emergency information paperwork is complete and readily available.
  • Complete any emergency paperwork promptly and submit to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Refer any unanswered questions or unresolved issues to the Camp Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Compile a list of recommendations at the end of the summer for the next summer.
  • Complete a staff and CIT evaluations weekly and submit to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Ensure staff wears YMCA shirt daily.
  • Implement, conduct and document a fire drill each week for safety.
  • Maintain all necessary paperwork on file to comply with State and County Health Department regulations (to be provided by the YMCA before camp begins).
  • Maintain overall cleanliness of the camp and its facilities.
  • Maintain all medications, with doctor's directions on it, in a locked box, administer medication as required and document in a medical logbook.
  • Maintain first aid and biohazard kit.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:


  • Certifications: Adult/Child CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification
  • Medical Administration Training
  • At least 19 years of age
  • 1 year of successful experience working in a youth program setting

YMCA CERTIFICATES/TRAININGS:

***- Blood borne Pathogen Training

  • Code of Conduct Training

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
  • Will be exposed to moderate to loud noise.
  • Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
