- Serve as a Family Spirit Health Educator in Fort Defiance, AZ.
- Attend community meetings to represent the project and maintain contacts with community partners.
- Recruit eligible participants and enroll them into the Family Spirit Program.
- Provide referrals for families to appropriate community resources.
- Provide transportation for participants to prenatal and well-baby visits.
- Travel to and conduct home-based lessons between 28 weeks' gestation and 3 years postpartum; lessons cover a wide range of maternal and child health topics, with a special focus on culturally relevant content and celebration of local strengths and traditions.
- Complete ongoing training and professional development to support effective implementation of the Family Spirit Program.
- Document data from participant visits to track all program activities.
- Review data for document accuracy and processing as needed.
- Work with the rest of project team on duties related to the general conduct of the program and participate in staff meetings to review project goals and progress.
- Attend community-based trainings and meetings (travel required)
- Update program logs and maintain up-to-date data entry records as needed.
- Assist with the other Center-wide programmatic duties as needed.
- Must be comfortable collecting saliva, urine, or blood samples from participants.
- Proficiency in the use of computers, including software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Independent and self-motivated.

- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.

The Center for Indigenous Health (CIH) is located administratively within the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. There are also satellite offices located in the Southwest and Great Lakes regions of the Midwest where much of our community-engaged work is done. CIH employs over 250 staff and faculty, has 10 distinct satellite offices and an annual operating budget of $25 million. Family Spirit Program Overview
Since 1995, CIH has worked with Tribal communities to develop, evaluate, and disseminate the Family Spirit Program. Family Spirit is an evidence-based and culturally tailored home-visiting intervention delivered by Native American paraprofessionals as an Indigenous solution to supporting young Native parents from pregnancy to 3 years post-partum. Parents gain knowledge and skills to achieve optimum development for their preschool-aged children across the domains of physical, cognitive, social-emotional, language learning, and self-help. The Family Spirit Core Curriculum consists of 63 lessons taught from pregnancy to age 3. Additional curriculum modules address emerging needs and specific family circumstances. The Family Spirit Program is currently being used at community sites around the country, with training and technical assistance provided by a team of CIH faculty and staff.
We are seeking a Family Spirit Health Educator who will work at the Fort Defiance, AZ (Navajo Nation) CIH office to recruit and serve families with the Family Spirit Program. The position will be supervised by the Fort Defiance site supervisor.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
