The Kassel Tax Office is one of six tax investigation offices in Hesse. The main task of tax investigation is to uncover, investigate, and prosecute tax offenses. In this context, IT forensics, i.e. the collection, analysis, and evaluation of digital traces, is becoming increasingly important. In tax criminal investigations, more and more data is being obtained and processed as electronic evidence. This presents major challenges for the use of information technology.

The Kassel Tax Office also has a central responsibility for data acquisitions of (electronic) evidence material and for large-scale digital proceedings in Hesse.
