    Toole Design Group in Boston, MA is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Project Planner.     A Day in the Life of a Project Planner

    Our planning group works on a wide range of projects, including active transportation plans, transit plans, multimodal corridor studies, street designs, Safe Routes to School (SRTS), curbside management and parking, transportation demand management, and micromobility plans. You will manage community engagement, as well as planning and design activities using the Safe System Approach. Help identify and deliver safety countermeasures, crash modification factors, and safety performance functions. Familiarity with GIS, road safety audits, crash analyses, speed management, equitable engagement practices and industry design stands will assist in your development of Vision Zero Action Plans, Local Roadway Safety Plans and other safety related initiatives.

    As a Project Planner you will manage projects, tasks and proposals, lead analyses, work directly with our clients, represent Toole Design in project and stakeholder meetings, pursue and win work, and reinforce our reputation as trusted experts. You'll work with other planners, landscape architects, urban designers, and engineers to deliver a variety of exciting projects focused on making places and travel experiences better for everyone. You'll be at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines, integrating input from a broad range of stakeholders to create award-winning plans that lead directly to implementation.

    Qualifications of a Project Planner:

    • A bachelor's or master's degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, urban design, engineering, public health, or a related field. Additional experience can be substituted in lieu of a degree
    • 5 or more years of planning experience
    • Certification as an AICP is a plus
    • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and multi-phased projects
    • Relevant work experience in one or more of the following areas: bicycle and pedestrian planning and design; transit planning; multimodal corridor studies; community and stakeholder engagement; and/or policy (e.g., curbside management, parking, TDM, micromobility) active transportation planning, streetscape design, transit, and trails
    • Relevant safety work in one or more of the following areas is a plus: Safe System Approach, Vision Zero, safety countermeasure design, crash modification factors, safety performance functions
    • Experience and interest in public outreach and engagement, a plus
    • Successful track record working independently on completing and/or managing tasks
    • Motivation to win work for a growing office including forming and managing client relationships, identifying potential opportunities, and developing proposals and interview materials

    Software proficiency:

    • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • GIS software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS)
    • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

    Work Schedule for a Project Planner

    This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. Our office is located in Boston's Downtown Crossing, directly adjacent to the iconic Boston Common, within a short walk to all of the major rapid transit lines and close to both North and South Station commuter rail lines.
