Nassau County - Public Health Specialist II (Community Outreach)


As Nassau County - Public Health Specialist II (Community Outreach), you are responsible for working with the Nassau County Health Department to provide specialized professional services related to public health and designated focus area.

This position will support Public Health Infrastructure activities in Nassau County, NY.

Position Specific Responsibilities


The Division of Community Health Outreach and Education aims to promote and protect health in the community by educating residents about resources and programs, including those related to COVID-19, that promote both physical and mental health.

The Public Health Specialist II will lead the development and implementation of materials and strategies to engage the community using evidence-based best practices that align with the public health mission and goals, including pandemic preparedness and response.

The role of the Public Health Specialist II (Community Outreach) may include:

  • Analyzing needs and identify target audiences for specific health issues/topics. Collaborate with Office of Communications to develop a social media calendar to ensure consistent, timely and relevant information to be shared with the community.
  • Assisting in the development of programs, developing and directing programs, supervising employees, developing, and managing budgets, marketing programs to the public and community leaders, and collaborating with Nassau County community organizations.
  • Outreach may include programs such as community fitness programs, senior citizen health programs, immunization outreach, mental health, migrant health, and health fairs, HIV/STD education, TB education, lead poisoning education, and other programs areas affected by COVID1
  • Act as a liaison between Nassau County Department of Health and the community in developing and implementing health education to individuals and group programs. Community outreach is crucial in assuring our community is ready for any future pandemic.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
This position is located on site at the Nassau County Health Department.


Qualifications:

This position is intended to execute complex tasks independently as well as coordinate the tasks of other team members.

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required. Experience in clinical medicine and/or public health a plus.
  • At least one year of experience within a health, public health, education, human services, or communitybased organization, or institutional setting.
  • Experience working in a health system in NYS. This includes but is not limited to hospitals, health care providers, health regulatory organizations, community resources, social services or schools in NYS.
  • A flexible, adaptive, and composed attitude with the ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment required.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Experience leading tracking and reporting processes.
Proficiency with computers including data entry into electronic tracking systems and running summary reports.
Phenomenal work ethic with a positive attitude.
Employment is contingent on completion of a background check by NY State.
Must be a NYS resident with familiarity of NYS geography; cities/towns/locations.
Preference given to those who live within commuting distance to the official work location.
Own telephone, computer, wireless internet (WiFi) and electronic equipment.
Must have access to a working PC with Windows 10,

Sophos; and personal mobile device to use for this job.


Compensation for roles at Staffing Solutions Organization LLC (SSO) varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.

As required by applicable law, SSO provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. In addition, SSO provides a range of benefits for this role.
