- Designs complex municipal capital and maintenance projects.

About the Position: Engineers perform intermediate professional and responsible administrative work participating in the planning, design and construction of a variety of City capital and maintenance; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Senior Engineer. Supervision is exercised over subordinate technical and clerical personnel.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
Overseeing, coordinating and participating in the development and design of public facilities projects; developing project plans and specifications; conducting plans review; preparing and maintaining engineering files and records. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering and 2 to 5 years experience in public works or utility engineering including 6 months to 2 years supervisory experience.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of N.C. Professional Engineer Registration. If not in possession of PE, then should be actively on track to pursuing the licensure.
Construction Project management experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering as related to the preparation of plans and specifications in the area assigned; thorough knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design of public works and utility projects; ability to perform difficult engineering computations and to make recommendations on engineering problems and planning; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors and the general public; skill in the use of engineering instruments and equipment; ability to communicate complete ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to calculate complex cost reports.

Do you possess a professional engineering license or are you on the path to pursuing your professional engineering license?
Do you possess a minimum of a Bachelor of Science from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering curriculum, or do you qualify by other means as allowed by NCBELS or NCEES to be eligible to sit for the PE?
