Description
Pre-licensure Programs DirectorThe Director administers the pre-licensure nursing programs in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of Denver College of Nursing.
The pre-licensure programs include the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Associate Degree in Nursing programs.The Director assists with recruitment and hiring of faculty, creating course schedules and accompanying faculty assignments, facilitating curriculum development, advising students, textbook selection, participating in program evaluation, assisting in the resolution of student and faculty issues.
This position reports to the Dean of Nursing Education Programs.Responsibilities
I. Professional Behavior
Demonstrates respect for students and has student-friendly manner in the conduct of his/her duties.
Demonstrates strong organizational leadership.
Serves as a role model in professionalism, interpersonal relationships, collaboration with others, scholarly activities, and as appropriate demonstrate master teaching competencies.
Works effectively as part of the overall faculty and administrative teams to include interpersonal relations, collaborating with faculty members to meet student needs, and responding to requests from executive management.
II. Organization Stewardship
Interacts with the academic affairs support staff as well as with other designated clerical staff and work-study students.
Serves as a member of the Deans Leadership Team
Serves as an Ex-officio member with vote on the committees of the academic senate.
Serves as meeting coordinator for Course Content Teams.
Addresses faculty issues and concerns in collaboration with the Dean as indicated.
Fosters positive communication and responsible follow-up communication with faculty, staff and students to insure a supportive and responsive learning environment.
Facilitates the scheduling of teaching assignments, monitoring workload for compliance with approved policy, and performance for faculty.
Collaborates with the Director of Clinical Practicum/ Placement to assure all students are scheduled for appropriate clinical experiences
Participates as appropriate on College committees, task forces, or other special projects as assigned
Assists with preparation of budget and ongoing monitoring of such as designated by Dean
Participates in liaison activities with government, civic, labor, and private organizations in the community to promote community understanding and support of the nursing education programs
Represents the Nursing Program in external nursing agency meetings as delegated by the Dean of Nursing Education Programs
Adheres to all policies, procedures, and expectations stated in School catalog, student, faculty and employee handbook.
III. Program Development and Management
Assists with the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of curriculum for the pre-licensure nursing programs in cooperation with the program faculty and within the standards of the applicable state Board of Nursing and any other accrediting agencies.
Participates in the systematic plan of evaluation process with a particular focus on looping findings back into overall program improvement.
Provides appropriate certification to the Dean for State Board of Nursing for students who complete program requirements and are recommended for NCLEX RN Exam.
Insures the faculty-student ratio in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Practicum/Placement for clinical experiences is in accordance with the regulations of the applicable state Board of Nursing in collaboration with nursing faculty and clinical agency administrators when making faculty assignments.
Assists in developing marketing communications for the programs and in student recruitment activities.
IV. Faculty/Student Development and Management
Recruits and interviews potential faculty and makes recommendations for appointment, promotion, retention, or termination as appropriate.
Evaluates pre-licensure program faculty in accordance with policies of the College and the standards of applicable regulatory bodies.
Develops and implements orientation procedures and faculty development activities for faculty.
Collaborates with other nursing faculty and staff to provide orientation of new students.
Interacts and advises students and faculty; problem solves and facilitates with individuals/groups in the interest of student and program success.
Documents correspondence related to student and faculty issues.
Follows the Chain of Command in resolving student or faculty disputes.
V. Professional Development Plan
Attends workshops and relevant continuing education aimed at earning the necessary CEUs for license requirements and professional growth.
Demonstrates professional involvement and leadership through participation in professional organizations, presentations, publications, etc.
Completes College annual Faculty Development Plan.
Exhibits competency in clinical skills at all levels of the program.
Has Doctoral Degree in Nursing or education/health related area.
Qualifications
Current active unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse or APRN in the State of Colorado or multistate privilege to practice in the State.
Master of Science in Nursing degree and Doctoral degree in nursing or related field.
Graduate of an approved professional nursing education program.
At least five years practice experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least three years of experience as a faculty member in a professional nursing education program.
.Minimum of three (3) year successful experience in a nursing administrative or management role.
Competent in personal computer applications:
word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email.
Excellent written, oral communication and analytical skills.
Some travel may be required.
Educational skills and ability to work with a diverse student population.
Ability to serve as a positive, supportive, and enthusiastic role model that can be fast-paced and at times stressful.
Successful completion of criminal background check, drug screening, appropriate immunizations and CPR and HIPAA certification.

Classification
The Pre-licensure Nursing Programs Director is an exempt, full-time position. Work hours may vary daily and evening and weekend hours may be required, depending on the staffing needs of the school
Physical and Mental Requirements
To perform the essential competencies and responsibilities of the position, the BSN Program Director is frequently required to: sit, bend, kneel, reach, stand for long periods, walk, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate computers and/or audiovisual equipment.
