Lyten is seeking a Research Scientist to develop plasma-based and chemistry-based carbon growth and material treatment processes for Li-S batteries and composite materials according to company objectives.

University of Illinois Research Park is the location of the position.


Responsibilities:


  • Work with plasma scientists and engineers to develop 2D and 3D graphene production processes using traditional thermal CVD and microwave plasma reactors for Lyten's nextgeneration materials.
  • Collaborate closely with battery, composites, and sensor groups to solve material challenges related to integration of CTO group carbon into those products.
  • Create novel materials for internal and external customers. Work closely with internal customers to test the effectiveness of new materials.
  • Develop carbon functionalization, materials decoration, and loading, such as sulfurization of battery materials.
  • Propose innovations and play a lead role in demonstrating concept feasibility. Generate intellectual property as necessary.
  • Make actionable plans based on literature research and personal experience.
  • Meet deliverable timelines.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in a relevant field (e.g., chemistry (molecular), materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering, computer science) OR Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., chemistry (molecular), materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering, computer science) AND 1+ years of experience in a relevant field contributing to multidisciplinary projects where scope requires reliance on the technical experience of other team members OR Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., chemistry (molecular), materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering, computer science) AND 3+ years of experience in a relevant field contributing to multidisciplinary projects where scope requires reliance on the technical experience of other team members OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Materials properties, growth, reactions, and interdiffusion expertise.
  • Experience in materials analysis techniques, including XRD, BET, Raman, SEM/EDS, TEM, XPS, and IGA.
  • Experience in Innovative process development and materials processing, functionalization, and fabrication expertise
  • The position requires strong collaboration with students, senior scientists, design engineers, facility personnel, the program manager, and the chief innovation officer.
  • Professional interactions with internal customers and colleagues.

Physical requirements:

  • Able to lift 2030 lbs.
  • Be able to work in a lab standing up to 5 hours each day

Compensations Range:
The expected base salary range for this position is between

$105, $157,400.00

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.

In addition to base pay this position is eligible for tier based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO and sick time, 401K, employee relocation plan (if applicable)
