About This Role:


  • The Instructor of Music Education will liaison with the College of Education and Human Development to assist in preparing students majoring in music education for state requirements regarding teacher certification. Additional duties include assessment reports for the university, state and accrediting boards, and other service activities. The Instructor of Music Education will have a teaching assignment of the equivalent of a twelvehour course load each semester assigned according to expertise and experience.

  • The Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music is a comprehensive department within the College of Fine Arts and Communication. An important and vital link to the university and the community, the Department of Music includes 19 fulltime faculty, 9 parttime faculty, and 138 students majoring in music with approximately 70% majoring in music education. The department offers Bachelor of Music degree in composition, music education, and performance; Bachelor of Arts degree; and Master of Music degree in music education (fully online) and performance.

  • Position Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in music education or as assigned | 60%
  • Supervise clinical teachers | 20%
  • Effectively assess and address students' needs within music education | 10%
  • Partner with COEHD | 5%
  • Offer workshops for music education students | 5%

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • A bachelor's degree in music education
  • A master's degree in music
  • Current Texas Teacher Certification: Alllevel Music Grades (PK12).
  • Three years (minimum) teaching in PK12 public schools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, positively advocating for the department, college, and university both on and off campus

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Demonstrated experience teaching secondary music.
  • Expertise as a choir or band director at the middle school and/or high school level(s).
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students in music education.
  • Maintain records and work with music faculty on behalf of students regarding observation hours and TExES exams.
  • Flexibility in teaching existing music education courses, modifying courses, and creating workshops or seminars.
