The Union League Club is a private social Club providing its members and guests with a quiet sanctuary and relief from the hustle of the city.

Our emphasis is on privacy, excellent a superior culinary experience and exceptional, personalized experiences.

Our clubhouse contains over 19,000 square feet of event space ranging from small private dining rooms to grand ballrooms as well as 60 overnight guest rooms.

Our culinary staff has prepared meals for
Presidents, Prime Ministers and Royals from around the globe. Additionally, The Club offers members and guest a robust calendar of special events and programs.


Position Description & Responsibilities:

Part-time Doorman


Summary

The Union League Club is seeking part-time doorman to create a secure and welcoming environment for club members and guests using our facilities.

Exemplary "customer service" orientation and outstanding hospitality skills are required and smiles are mandatory This position does require various physical demands.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays and fluctuating days off. Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience and qualifications, uniform provided and staff meals while on duty.

This position will report to the Director of Rooms & Member Services and work collaboratively with all team members.


Available Shifts
Applicants should have availability that includes Monday-Wednesday afternoon/evening & weekends.


Qualifications & Requirements:

In addition to the necessary, technical expertise required for this position, the individual must have a proven track record and ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Maintain effective operating, safety and control procedures designed to attain maximum operating efficiency and security while ensuring adherence to Club standards
  • Personal drive focused on creating exceptional, personalized member & guest experiences
  • Interact with members and guests in a professional manner with patience, tact, and diplomacy
  • Flexible work schedule to include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to work under pressure, handle difficult situations; prioritize and organize work
  • Agility in multitasking and working in a facepaced environment
  • Cohesive team player
  • Experience in customer service and service recovery
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and outstanding interpersonal skills are required as is a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
  • Experience as a doorman in a major market preferred

Education:
High school diploma required


Job Tasks/Duties
The primary function of the doorman is the security and privacy of entering the building. The doorman is required to guard the lobby and screening all visitors, workmen, deliverymen, etc. Doorman are to be polite and alert at all times.

Doorman must realize that the manner in which they carry out their duties helps establish the tone and character of the Union League Club.

The manner in which visitors are received established their first and lasting impression of the Club. Employees therefore should be especially neat, courteous and in proper uniforms at all times.

  • Opening car doors, warmly welcoming and greeting ALL members, guests and visitors and registering and vetting visitors
  • Responsible for executing member and guest verification upon arrival as per the Club's established policies and protocols.
  • Assisting with bags as necessary
  • Assisting with the coat room, monitoring security cameras, umbrella checkout, Jacket & Tie checkout, holding overnight room keys, arranging for car service and keeping the work area and main entrance clean and presentable
  • Primarily attentive to the safety and security of all persons in the Clubhouse, as well as assists members and guests with directions, questions about the local area, and providing pertinent information about the Clubhouse and daily activities
  • This position will also support the Front Office team with overnight guest room registrations and requests
  • Exemplary "customer service" orientation and outstanding hospitality skills are required, and
    smiles are mandatory.

Range of Motion/Physical Requirements:


  • Grasp, lift, carry or transport boxes/ packages with sufficient manual dexterity in both hands; able to load and unload carts up to 75 lbs.
  • Push/pull wheeled carts weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs throughout the day
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to walk up a down short staircases, sometimes while carrying bags.
  • Stand and/or walk for length of scheduled shift
  • Express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word accurately, loudly and quickly
  • Have visual acuity to determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • While performing the duties of this job, the individual will often be exposed to variable outside weather c
