Main Function:


To transport sisters to appointments or ministries, assist the sisters in and out of vehicles, communicate with Resident Services Coordinator, run errands as assigned, and maintain vehicles and garage.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Transportation Duties

  • Use appropriate vehicles as indicated on schedule to transport Sisters to appointments and ministries.
  • Follows schedule accurately and checks with Resident Services Coordinator for approval of changes needed.
  • Assist passengers in and out of vehicles, require seat belt use, and follow safety guidelines.
  • Gives assistance based on individual physical condition of passengers; assists passengers with seat belts; follows safety rules in assisting passengers.
  • Drive carefully following all driving laws and regulations.
  • Follows driving laws and regulations for the State of Indiana and regulations for drivers.
  • Remain nearby Sister during appointments, as the drive schedule allows, to be available for timely pick-up of Sister once appointment is complete. Report problems or delays to Resident Services Coordinator.
  • Reports delays or other issues timely and reports information accurately and confidentially.
  • Reviews schedule daily for rides occurring on the following day, check schedule and report conflicts.
  • Checks thoroughly and reports conflicts in a timely manner so that adjustments can be made promptly. Is flexible and adaptable with working schedule to meet the needs of the Sisters.

Errands

  • May transport specimens as requested by Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Coordinators.
  • Complete all errands, pick ups, or deliveries within work shift; any problems are communicate directly to the Resident Services Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Pick up prescriptions and other medical supplies as needed.
  • Deliver and pick up other items as assigned.

Vehicle Maintenance

  • Check and service vehicles for the day. (i.e., gas, oil, radiator levels, etc., adding as needed)
  • Each day vehicles are prepared and ready 30 minutes before the first pick up.
  • Report malfunctions of vehicles to Resident Services Coordinator when a vehicle seems to require maintenance at a garage. Take vehicles periodically for scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Follows established procedure for preventive maintenance; reports problems in a timely way and follows procedures for maintenance needed at a service garage.
  • Keep assigned vehicles vacuumed, washed and polished.

Additional Duties

  • Keep designated keys to pool and fleet vehicles in St. Michael's Garage office labeled and locked in key box.
  • Maintain garage area; sweep and empty trash.
  • Upon inspection, floors appear swept and clean; trash is emptied regularly.
  • Keep all records, drive list, and all other information confidential.
  • By observation, drivers maintain professional image; information is kept confidential. Drivers demonstrate great sense of integrity.
  • Maintains attendance and observes working hours, starting time, lunch period, breaks, quitting time, etc.
  • Complies with work rules, regulations, and instructions, follows established systems and procedures, completes assignments with mínimal supervision.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
A high school diploma or GED preferred.


Experience
***Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have an excellent driving record, with thorough knowledge of the Michiana area, and ability to evaluate/maintain automobiles. If hired after April 2024 must possess and maintain a valid DOT driver certification.


Responsibility


Failure to follow proper laws could result in bodily injury and legal ramifications; improper planning could cause delay; failure to follow preventative maintenance schedule could lead to financial loss.

Occasionally encounters inclement weather or difficult driving conditions.

***Routinely required to operate automotive equipment.


Hazards or Fatigue
Ordinary care and caution must be exercised while driving. Occasional muscle fatigue or backache may result after prolonged activity.


Physical Demands
This position is very active and requires bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, and grasping all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items exceeding 20 to 50 pounds.


Planning and Organizing
***Primarily works on a daily schedule; rearranges schedule due to emergency situations. Work hours can vary according to the needs of the Sisters
- including transporting Sisters to airports in the evenings and weekends on occasion.
