    Alumni of Williams College are known for their energy, enthusiasm, and their desire to share their purple passion with the world. As Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement, working with the Classes of Class Manager), you will be responsible for harnessing that energy and channeling it into holistic engagement strategy, including events, communication, philanthropy, and volunteer service. Within this particular cohort of classes, you will help a base of highly dedicated volunteers and donors expand the scope of their philanthropic impact from purely participation to include leadership giving as well.

    Generations of giving through the Alumni Fund has enabled Williams to intensify its efforts to bring to campus the best students from around the world based on who they might become, not how much they can afford to pay, and to support every aspect of their experience once on campus. More recently, this commitment has led to a transformation of the student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality, among other areas. As Class Manager, you will play an important role in extending that diversity across the population of Alumni Fund leadership donors as well.

    The Class Manager is part of a dynamic Office of Alumni Engagement: a team of creative, empathetic, and committed individuals who are dedicated to keeping alumni connected to each other and the college by uplifting and empowering all members of our diverse community. We are looking for someone with a can-do spirit who will thrive while working as part of a highly functioning team.

    This role is eligible for up to two days per week remote work from locations in MA, CT, NY, or VT subject to our remote and flexible working policy.

    Responsibilities

    As Class Manager, you provide direct management and holistic support of engagement and philanthropy efforts among a cohort of assigned classes years out). This work forms the core of the Class Engagement team within the Office of Alumni Engagement, and you are uniquely positioned to identify emerging leadership donors. Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
    • Alumni Engagement. Promotes opportunities for lifelong alumni engagement with the college, including event attendance, communications, volunteerism, and giving.
    • Volunteer management. Identify, recruit, onboard, retain, motivate, and manage the work of the agent team in each assigned class (typical: 2-4 head agents, 2+ leadership giving agent, 25-30 associate agents). Inspire continued engagement through cultivation and stewardship visits (in-person or virtual), including of agents and also other class leaders as needed.
    • Class and volunteer management. Among assigned classes and in close collaboration with volunteers identified above, develop and implement strategies to set and achieve class-based dollar, donor, and participation goals.
    • Class-based communications. Organize, execute, and evolve class-based solicitation and stewardship schedules with an aim of continuous learning and improvement. Utilize omnichannel communications, including print, email, text, video, phone, and in-person messages for solicitation and stewardship.
    • Coordination of leadership giving within classes. Through deep collaboration with the director of Alumni Fund leadership giving, AFDOs, SDOs, and head and leadership agents, ensure that all identified Alumni Fund leadership prospects receive a personal ask at a leadership amount each FY. Conduct analysis and facilitate peer screenings to identify additional leadership giving prospects. Conduct qualification conversations with prospects and current donors in collaboration with the Director of Alumni Fund Leadership Giving. Personally cultivate and solicit a leadership gift as needed among assigned classes (not more than 15 asks/FY).
    • Counsel and leadership of support staff. With another AFDO, provide guidance and feedback for a Program Coordinator, ensuring clear and open lines of communication and collaboration so that all assigned work can be completed successfully. Actively manage this administrative support staff member so that they are given clear objectives and explanations, adequate tools and training to meet all requirements, constructive coaching and affirmation to remain integral and valued members of the development team.
    • Donor relations. Provide timely responses to inquiries and critiques from alumni, including as relates to sensitive or emotionally-charged issues (ex: admission decisions).
    By fulfilling the above responsibilities and pursuing additional strategies that emerge, you will raise ~$1.2M from ~2,600 alumni each year.

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree preferred plus a minimum of two years of professional experience (preferably in higher or secondary education) or other directly related experience, including communications/marketing, fundraising, or working with students and/or volunteers
    • Ability to navigate complex, sophisticated conversations that range from small talk to explaining our complex financial model and personal motivations for giving
    • Demonstrated interest in working with volunteers and ability to cultivate relationships with volunteer leaders, students, and donors.
    • Ability to analyze data quantitatively and qualitatively; strong understanding of most aspects of fundraising principles, practices, techniques, and philosophy in higher education preferred
    • A strong desire to learn the unique characteristics and culture of Williams College and appreciate the passion and expectations of its alumni; moderate amount of travel, evening, and weekend responsibilities are required to meet with alumni
