The
Vice President & Chief Nurse Executive **reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsible for providing executive leadership for Patient Care Services (PCS) throughout Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH). Oversees and directs the operations of the PCS Division and serves as Chief Nursing Executive within Northwestern Medicine.


Description

  • Leads the PCS division of NMH and provides necessary resources and direction for the delivery and coordination of services within PCS and across the continuum of care.
  • Works collaboratively with the System Chief Nursing Officer and other NM CNEs to oversee the development, implementation, updating and maintenance of systemwide Standard of Care, Standards of Practice and Policies and Procedure for Nursing.
  • Works collaboratively with nursing managers, service line directors, senior leadership, the medical staff and others to prioritize Northwestern Medicine nursing objectives and initiatives.
  • Participates in the design and development of systems compatible with the ANA Code of Ethics, nursing standards, the goals and resources of the organization, and changing societal needs and patient/client/ family expectations.
  • Actively participates on key committees, which set policy and direction for the organization, including Medical Executive Committee, Quality Council, Operations/Patient Care Performance Improvement Committee, etc.
  • Develops and keeps current the Nursing Plan of Care for the hospital and assures this continues to meet the changing needs of the community.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement of nursing practices and care delivery; evaluates and revises nursing services to enhance achievement of desired patient/client/familycentered outcomes.
  • Works with service line leadership to develop and implement appropriate patient care staffing plans for each facility/department.
  • Develops with others, mechanisms which assure the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of key areas of performance, such as patient care and service standards, staff competency, patient and employee satisfaction, financial performance and productivity.
  • Develops and maintains the system by which the nonphysician clinical staff who are not system employees are evaluated for competency and given privileges to practice within Northwestern Medicine. This applies to private physician employees who assist in surgery, Advanced Practice Nurses, Physician Assistants, and others who provide patient care.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, updating and maintenance of systemwide Standard of Care, Standards of Practice and Policies and Procedure for Nursing.
  • Represents nursing issues to the Boards, to governmental, regulatory agencies and other appropriate groups. Works with agencies and groups to promote the growth, knowledge and skills of professional nursing and improve the quality of health care services.
  • Work collaboratively but oversees local accountability for accreditation and regulatory issues. Reviews TJC, NCNQ, and other regulatory standards; identifies and champions development of required policies and procedures, and monitors compliance hospital wide.
  • Helps all employees make the connection between NM values, their daily work and patient and customer satisfaction. Holds staff accountable for modeling service standards and behaviors.
  • Works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer to set clear expectations for continuous quality and service improvement. Uses internal and external benchmark data and best practices to establish specific targets, timelines and metrics for improvement projects.
  • Encourages those who identify problems, potential solutions and opportunities for improvement. Supports and empowers staff in piloting new ideas and solutions.
  • Creates an environment of partnership, collaboration, seamless quality and service enhancement across teams, departments and divisions of the organization.
