    Description

    The principal purpose of this position is to be responsible for maintaining the JSC Pharmacy as regulated by the Code of Federal Regulations and upholding the Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations. This individual will be responsible for supporting pharmacy requirements for the JSC Clinic, the Space Medicine Program, Medical Operations, as well support various research projects. This position is that of an individual contributor with no supervisory responsibilities. This position is not remote.

    Duties of this position includes the following:
    • Assist in maintaining Joint Commission Compliance of Ambulatory Care Standards.
    • Perform standard pharmacy operations and medication management to the pharmacy patient population. Includes:
    1. Dispense medications prescribed by physicians.
    2. Check for order accuracy for medication type, dosage, frequency, and correct packaging/labels on all new and refill orders.
    3. Educate patients on medication side-effects and correct dosage, including frequency of use, time of day, and any possible food or drug interactions.
    • Provide pharmacy support to Space Medicine Program including the preparation of medical kits for spaceflight.
    • Provide reports and recommendations regarding new therapeutics to space medicine personnel.
    • Provide literature review and drug information in support of clinical care and exploration medicine.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Responsible for compliance of safety, health, and environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and to comply with all safety laws and all of the company's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
    • Responsible for compliance with the quality assurance plan policies and procedures
    • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the company.
    • Responsible for completing all assigned training.
    • Become proficient in standard protocols and specialized protocols for unique requirements including ability to train others in a unique environment.
    • Attend meetings as required
    • Fulfills the duty and responsibility to maintain competence and to continue personal and professional growth.
    • Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities.
    • Identifies and assists with opportunities to further space medicine pharmacy practice.
    • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste (of time and supplies) and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.
    • Demonstrates the ability to be an advocate for and strive to protect the health, safety and rights of the patient.
    • Must maintain the utmost in privacy for our patients.
    • Communicate effectively with other care providers (physicians, nurses, and satellite staff) to provide for continuity of patient care and to meet the needs of the patients we serve
    • Communicate effectively with non-care providers (engineers, project managers, etc) to provide education on the pharmacy discipline and how it applies to crew health and performance in the space program.
    • Behaviors and interactions demonstrate a positive attitude.
    • Excellent written/oral communication skills
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Requirements

    Education/Experience
    Required:

    • BS or PharmD degree from an accredited school or college of pharmacy

    • Texas State Board of Pharmacy licensed or eligible

    Desired:

    • Community pharmacy experience

    • Hospital pharmacy experience

    Skills/Training
    Required

    • Thorough knowledge of drug information resources

    • Strong literature review skills

    • Thorough knowledge of clinical pharmacy and recent experience in hospital pharmacy as well as community pharmacy practice

    • Proficient use of a personal computer in Microsoft products

    Desired

    • Experience in pharmacy research

    • Interest and knowledge of the space program

    • Experience in Crystal Reports

    **Up to $7500 in relocation reimbursement**

    Must be U.S. Citizenship or National and have ability to successfully obtain necessary security clearance.
