Did you enjoy creating sand castles, and would you want to do that on an industrial scale? Harrison Steel has openings on second shift in its molding line to assist in creating large sand molds that will be used to create steel castings.

Working as a team, the area is responsible for the entire creation of a mold with sizes ranging from 67 to 12,500 pounds.

The molding process involves several different steps, such as:


  • Operating the sand mixer to fill the pattern box with sand
  • Operating a hand drill to drill holes in the sand mold
  • Painting molds with a refractory coating
  • Assembling and positioning cores in the mold
  • Joining both halves of the mold to complete the assembly process

  • Enjoys handson work
  • Basic math & reading skills
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
  • Works safely and observes all safety procedures

Work Environment:

The employee regularly work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Also exposure to outdoor weather conditions, non-weather related extreme cold, water and humidity, and the risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The usual noise level is very loud. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
