- The Maine Department of Marine Resources is seeking a full time Marine Resource Specialist Il in the Bureau of Marine Science, Biological Monitoring and Assessment Division._
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a field and technical position based out of Boothbay Harbor and will be responsible for field work coast-wide in the lobster and scallop programs as well as data entry, data management, and maintenance of field and lab equipment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
_
- Data collection on commercial fishing boats for the lobster At-Sea Sampling Program and Ventless Trap Survey with associated data entry and data checking from those trips.
- Assisting the Scallop Program on dredge surveys, sometimes acting as the lead field sampler.
- Working about eight months per year in the lobster program and four months in the scallop program.
- Conducting 68 atsea sampling trips per month during the peak lobster field season (May-Nov). During the winter months (Dec-April), the position will complete limited lobster sampling trips and assist with scallop surveys and phone interviews.
- Assisting other programs when available and as needed (i.e., Inshore Trawl Survey).
- Interacting with commercial fishermen and the public.
While not conducting field work, the employee is expected to work in the Boothbay office, with the option for remote work three days a week.
Work is performed under general supervision. Travel in-state is expected and costs including time, per-diem and lodging will be covered directly or reimbursed.

DESIRED SKILLS:
_
- Atsea work experience and the ability to work independently under physically challenging conditions.
- Prior experience or ability developing relationships with fishing industry members.
- Familiarity with MS Access, ArcGIS, and R or other statistical programs.
- Comfort with computer hardware and relational databases are desirable.
- SCUBA diving certification with experience in cold water is also desired.
- Additional qualities must include strong interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.
- A demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at the same time with high attention to detail.
- The ability to work effectively with mínimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five (5) years of experience and/or education in the compilation and summarization of scientific field and laboratory data to include a minimum of one (1) year of experience in natural resource science, management, technology, laboratory, or field work.
