General Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Victim Support Services in the Cook County Sheriff's Special Victims Division, the VSS Licensed Clinical Lead will provide therapeutic care, crisis intervention and supervision to children and adolescents in the limited custody of Cook County Sheriff's Police while awaiting the arrival of proper outside agencies. The Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and/or Licensed Clinical Social Worker will monitor minors in crisis assessing their behaviors and emotions and will provide group therapy and individual therapy sessions when appropriate. The Licensed Clinical lead will ensure the comfort and care of all youth in crisis while in the limited custody of Cook County Sheriff's Police, Special Victim's Division. The Victim Support Services Licensed Clinical Lead will assist with adult human trafficking and domestic violence victims the Unit encounters when and if youth in crisis are not present.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Provide therapeutic care, crisis intervention and supervision to children and adolescents in the limited custody of Cook County Sheriff's Police while awaiting the arrival of proper outside agencies.

Appropriately assesses the minors' needs regarding behavioral health treatment, medical treatment, and other services necessary with Comprehensive Based Youth Services or Department of Children and Family Services.

Supervise clinical staff and reviews staff clinical notes.

Conduct Mental Status Exams (MSE) for youth in CCSPD's limited custody while awaiting Department of Children and Family Services or Comprehensive Based Youth Services.

Conduct suicide risk assessments for youth in CCSPD's limited custody while awaiting Department of Children and Family Services or Comprehensive Based Youth Services.

Provide crisis intervention for youth while awaiting Department of Children and Family Services or Comprehensive Based Youth Services.

Submit timely and accurate clinical notes, reports, and other information as requested during the duration of each youth's stay.

Communicate professionally and accurately during interactions with Department of Children and Family Services, Comprehensive Based Youth Services and any other agencies.

Provide individual therapy and group therapy sessions to youth during the duration of each youth's stay when appropriate.

Interact with, initiates, and encourages children in structured therapeutic, social, and recreational activities.

Assume responsibility for the direct supervision of children and adolescents while awaiting Department of Children and Family Services or Comprehensive Based Youth Services.

Perform daily routine age-appropriate childcare responsibilities, as assigned, including meal preparation and hygiene direction.

Provide recommendations to Director of Victim Support Services on improving and streamlining program processes, operations, and outcomes.

Practice a victim centered approach at all times when working with minors and adults that are human trafficking, sexual assault and/or domestic violence survivors.

The duties of the VSS Licensed Clinical Lead are subject to change at any time within the Victim Support Services Unit depending on the immediate needs of the Unit and mission of the office.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience in providing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques with youth who may be a risk to self and/or others.

Knowledge and or experience navigating the Department of Children and Family Services, and Comprehensive Community Based Youth Services.

Ability to establish and maintain appropriate rapport and boundaries with youth.

Works with integrity and treats others with respect.

Ability to reinforce emergency rules to ensure safety and security of the youth.

Ability to provide services from a strengths-based, trauma informed perspective.

Ability to provide appropriate role modeling and direction to minors awaiting arrival of Department of Children and Family Services or Comprehensive Based Youth Services.

Ability to provide a safe environment, compassion, and exhibit patience when engaging with youth in crisis.

Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy with individuals that come from various backgrounds.

Knowledge of different therapeutic methods and ability to switch between different treatment strategies to meet each minor's or adolescent's needs.

The VSS Licensed Clinical Lead must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with law enforcement personal, Department of Children and Family Services, and Comprehensive Community Based Youth Services regarding arrangements for youth in crisis.

Ability to work in high stress situations.

Ability to motivate, encourage and portray an optimistic attitude in high stress situations.

Ability to work with minor and adult victims in a professional and clinical manner.

Previous work experience engaging with domestic violence and/or human trafficking victims.

Ability to be sensitive while engaging with youth who may have experienced domestic violence, human trafficking and/or other related trauma.

Ability to produces and maintain highly detailed, efficient, and accurate documentation and record keeping.

Strong writing skills, including the ability to translate reports, attendance sheets and progress notes into succinct, clear sentences.

Ability to meet prescribed deadlines, collaborate as part of a team, and respond well to supervisor direction and follow up.

Thorough working knowledge of or ability to grasp and utilize policies, protocols, systems and procedures of the agency, department, and County, as they are applicable to assigned duties and responsibilities quickly and effectively.

Ability to engage youth in individual and group therapy sessions that are age appropriate.

Ability to be sensitive while engaging with youth who may have experienced domestic violence, human trafficking and/or other related trauma.

Ability to follow the chain of command at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, counseling, or a related field.

Possession of an active state licensure in counseling Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and/or Social Work LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker).

One (1) or more years of post-licensure professional work experience in a behavioral health setting, or comparable field working directly with individuals navigating mental health wellbeing and or substance use disorders.

Two (2) or more years of crisis intervention experience navigating within the mental health field in collaboration with treatment providers.

Previous work experience engaging with domestic violence victims.

CPR & First Aid Certified and/or must obtain within 90 days of hire date.

40- Hour Domestic Violence trained and/or must obtain within 90 days of hire date.

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.

Excellentwrittenand oralcommunicationskills are necessarywitha positive attitude.

Possession of a valid driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance and the ability to operate a motor vehicle while providing own means of transportation.

Willingness to attend seminars, trainings, and meetings about topics relevant to youth, youth in care, human trafficking, domestic violence and other trainings if applicable.

Must be willing to travel to and from various job site locations if needed.

Required to be capable to work any shift assigned, including days, afternoons, or midnights; must be capable of working holidays and weekends; must be able to work unplanned assignments when needed, as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Possession of bilingual language skills- English/Spanish preferred.

Two (2) or more years of working in amanagedcareenvironment orworkingwithyouthandvulnerable populations.

Two (2) or more years of working direct services with human trafficking or domestic violence survivors.

Experience working with various law enforcement agencies, social service agencies, government agencies and or justice involved individuals.

Lived experience as a survivor of domestic violence or human trafficking that has had trauma focused therapy or worked with a certified domestic violence advocate.
