Description

The position involves meeting with customers, gathering relevant information and performing construction cost estimates from oral communication, written scope of work, sketches and sometimes plans.

This position primarily involves commercial projects with occasional residential estimating.

Estimator must have ability to perform quantity take-offs and have a general knowledge of time-frames required to perform typical construction tasks.

Estimator should have good people skills to be able to work with a customer's ideas and descriptions.

Estimator will work closely with the department President and Service Manager to obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing information from databases, subcontractors, suppliers, etc.

to utilize in estimates.


Primary Responsibilities:

• Meet with customers, perform construction cost estimating, price change order revisions, and assist in managing projects to successful completion
• Develop budget estimates using information obtained through discussions with customers and other conceptual information provided
• Review project scope of work and projected labor hours with the team to ensure a complete understanding of the estimate
• Solicit subcontractors, vendors, and equipment suppliers' information and pricing
• Review of subcontractor and material supplier pricing
• Research and discuss alternate means and methods to determine the most economical avenue to project completion, and meeting the customer's expectations
• Review and estimate change orders and other cost impacts and explain to customers as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Good knowledge of commercial and residential construction
• Comfortable using current technology
• Experience in utilizing Microsoft Excel and related Microsoft Office software
• Ability to work independently, but more likely to work as a team made up of carpenters, mechanical technicians, architects or engineers as needed
• Organizational skills, oral and written communication and positive team attitude
• Willingness to learn and adapt to a changing market

Added Value Experience

• Prior commercial or residential estimating experience
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
• Experience with estimating software programs
• Experience with CAD software
• Mechanical, electrical and plumbing knowledge
