    Under the supervision and guidance of the Manager, Actuarial Reserving, Forecasting & Risk Management Support, the Actuarial Analyst II position supports analysis, data collection, and other operational support for internal and external Actuarial/Underwriting deliverables with a focus on setting the monthly IBNR Reserve, budgeting and forecasting, and Mass Health financial reporting.

    This position represents actuarial in many cross functional teams.


    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Leads reserving analysis and communication of financial results to senior leadership.
    • Responsible for developing monthly IBNR, reviewing claims projects, updating lag files, and supporting of other actuarial accruals (MLR Rebate, MassHealth Corridors and Settlements, Risk Adjustment, Cost Sharing Reduction Accrual, etc.)
    • Supports the quarterly forecasting of Mass General Brigham Health Plan financial statements for purposes of business planning.
    • Responsible for explaining and monitoring Mass General Brigham Health Plan revenue and medical claims variances against the budget.
    • Annual update of actuarial memorandum and support of actuarial memorandum.
    • Supports annual audits (Mass General Brigham Health Plan and Mass General Brigham close), triennial DOI audit, and various quarterly/monthly MassHealth reporting and filings.
    • Takes ownership of IBNR process and continue to refine and improve current processes and enhance efficiencies.
    • Works closely with the reserving manager and the department VP to understand key actuarial concepts and hold self and others accountable to meet commitments.
    • Persists in accomplishing objectives to consistently achieve results despite any obstacles and setbacks that arise.
    • Builds strong relationships and infrastructures that designate Mass General Brigham Health Plan as a people-first organization.

    Qualifications


    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics or another quantitative discipline (Physics, Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Mathematical Economics, etc.) required or the equivalent combination of training and experience
    • 3 years of analytic experience with at least 2 years of healthcare related actuarial experience; background on MassHealth is a plus.
    • Completion of at least 1 actuarial exam.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, VBA, SQL and SAS.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
